Wow Phill it is squirrel day on WetCanvas. he looks cool all white with a red tail. Might have been the Easter bunny in disguise stealing eggs :-)

Any squirrel day is a good day :D

Actually Phil, there's a who slew of websites about white squirrels (along with some sort of silly white/black squirrel controversy) and one site that mentions multi-colored hybrids (http://www.thom.org/gallery/set/squirrels.html) that may be like your friend's family and cousins.

Quick work with the camera! ;)

(I've never seen a white one - I'm jelouse! )

Wingnut I don't know about any Controversy. But I do know Albinism. I see it everyday. I have a Grandson with it. His father also has it as well as his two brothers, father that is. My Grandson does have some pigment and to see him you would nevr know. but his father on the other hand is a rare even for someone with this. Olney(sp) IL. has a whole town of White Squirrls. If this gene is out at the city park it wont be long before we have a whole park full of them.

Well go back and try and get some better Pics of Him/her.

and here i thought someone got a hold of it and bleached it white :D

it could be she bleached her fur so she wouldn't be like all the other squirrels. who knows boy squirrels might prefer blondes. and of course you can always tell if they are natural or not by there tails....

okay stop throwing things at me - i couldn't resist.

Ahh...I know. It's like when I was sitting on the bank at campground, fishing. My granddaughter (3 1/3 years old at the time) was standing behind me "combing" my hair. All of a sudden she lets out a squeal  "Grandma, Grandma....you're going BLONDE!!" A few seconds later..."Nope. :cat: I think it's just gray." :D

(cute kid!)
Maybe that's what's happening to this poor little critter...just kidding. (I have an albino ferret and she has the pink eyes, but she definitely has some "color" in her coat too...especially in the winter.

Gorgeous creature Phil!! Back a few years ago there was a very light grey one around our place ... almost white. Wish I'd gotten a photo of him/her. Heard then that the white ones used to be thought of as spiritual squirrels with some kind of special powers. :)

Next time you are out that way, wish you could take along a camera that could get a better shot of this little guy. He is really cute. Like to see what he/she really looks like.

Thanks for the photos,

I've occasionally seen squirrels here in Kingston (Canada) which are coloured like a Siamese cat. Light beige with brown "points". They're really quite pretty. Never seen a white one before.
