Hi and Welcome to Classical Art Journey Week 26!
We'd love to see your studies of classical art.
Any media or skill level is welcome to participate on our journey.

If you have any questions, please ask.
Our purpose is to do one study a week for 52 weeks.
It is a small way to stay focused on our art, our studies,
and to learn from one another.

Since it has been so hot, I thought this looked like a nice place to visit.
Below have a short stroll through the forest, cool off and look we happen upon some deer. I like this painting even though the deer and
landscape are painted at different times.

Gustave Courbet
French Realist Painter, 1819-1877

Courbet's students included Henri Fantin-Latour

Here are two images of the same painting.
See the difference in views!
I can not decide which one is the better one.
I have this in a book, much more colorful.

This classical art journey has really been enjoyable......This week another Lautrec ...last crumbs 1891....I worked in a new medium for me ...charcoal...vine..willow and pencil with pastel on miteintes pastel paper...the rough side as you can see...its messy to work with but interesting and fun....this was a rather quick study, but you can see the degradation in Lautrecs figures....nickel...beautiful painting you chose this week...I was in the musee d' orsay that this painting is in...the museum is unbelievable....thank you again....tyree:heart: :D

Stars??!! Stars did ye say???!!! So this is where you get stars. Didn't even know this side road was here. Now that I have picked up the scent and am on a lope and baying to bag a star, here is my contribution.

By Luke, from the Bulls Gap, Tennessee school, circa 1788. Now in the private collection of Bill Gates.

Luke, you are making me cry
Oh my!
What an expressive boy you are!
Lovely and so full of "yourself"

You will have to catch up with Tyree for your stars ;)

Welcome to the journey. Did you eat the whole thing?
God you are a mess! And I love messes.
You wait till the other girls get done with you!!!
I am easy. ;)

Didn't your momma ever tell you to not make those faces like that
or it might get stuck and then what would you do?:D

Luke, I think you are pulling my leg.
I stood in front of the mirror
Made faces
Could not get my face to do this. lol
You pulling Nickels leg?
What kind of tricks do you have up your sleeve?
I really like your portrait. :)

My face has character. My spirit has dramatic flair. I have what they call "stage presense," and you don't, Nickel. Sorry bout that.

What do you mean "catch up to Tyree?" I've been running down the center stripe of Wet Canvas Classical Forum for a year. Head thrown back, belly thrust forward. Elbows swinging, knees pumping. Fat jiggling and lungs heaving. And not even the hint of a star winking on the black horizon to tease and tempt me onward. :envy:

Tyree I just LOVE the expression on your gentlemans face. And I love the new medium.. I hapen to be a texture person myself. Keep'em coming.

I feel blessed.
I got new pensils and some wallis pastel paper so I did a soft landscape this week. Hope you like it. In keeping with Nickels forest.

Nickel.. Looking at the Forest Scenes you summited I think the color difference is from a printing method. The dark greens seem over saturated to me but even if he painted two landscapes I think you would see subtle differences in the work.

Today we have more control in printing processes but when these images were printed they were made from a 4 color process and are never true to seeing it for real.

Don't ya think??

Hello everyone!!! Happy weekend to you all!
I've been chasing everything except putting up my feet and resting.

This is a pen and water color sketch I did this week of the Greek Tholos (rotunda) at Delphi preparatory to beginning work on an oil of it. I learned some important lessons about the proportions of the columns from this sketch which I am correcting in the painting. I will post that later when I'm further along.

Okokok, first landscapes than watercolor... well it definetely brings my memory back at those landscapes I did.

Lovely subject Robert. :)

Nickel, well I havent given up on landscapes, just waiting for summer to get the corage to get out to the fresh air and trying it out. Until them still life, florals and portraits are in my plates right now. :)
