View Full Version : FND 3/8 Pen & Ink - shadow and light

Here's my pen and ink sketch for tonight. Everything was going well until I tried to do the kids sitting on the stairs - yuk! The time just sped by - it could use more darkening of the shadows and defining of the stairs, but it's basically what I started out to do.

4-3/4 square on drawing paper with 01, 03 and 07 sketching pens.

Nice job Surfinia :)

I think the dark to light is great. Kids are not as bad as you think.

Surfinia I think this is ALL good! I love the architecture, your perspective is dead on, I agree with Yielding, you did a great job of the kids on the stairs too, they add a great focal point.

This is lovely Surfinia. The architecture and light/shadow are perfect. I love architecture done with pen and ink. The medium seems to suit the subject so well. Well done.

Everyone's already said it all, surfinia!! Great pen-work! Like the dark/light effects you've done - think this was a perfect pc to do in ink! I love it!!

Very nice Surfinia, I too chose to work from that photo and your detail is wonderful. Mine is done in watercolor, and I had to break up my time because I had a previous engagement tonight, I have 45 minutes into mine but will finish tomorrow and post it. I can't finish it tonight.... too tired...I was up too late last night looking for easter eggs!

Wonderful job!

You've done a great job, Surfania! The detail work on the buildings is impressive and yet it leaves some space to the viewer's imagination. Ther kids are fine, too. :)

I like this much better than the original! The close cropped composition is excellent and your handling of the details really works well. Fabulous!!

Good ink rendition of a very complicated piece Surfinia.

I think you chose a good title for it, the shadows and light are great.

Surfinia, I really like this and love your kids!! You did a excellent job on the architecture and I like the way you focused on the kids instead of doing the full image:D It has very nice impact when viewed!

I love your pen and ink surfinia. It's bold and conveys the scene very well. And you did it in such a small space.

I like the way you re-cropped this, and the texture on the buildings is phenomenal.
