The other day, while Taking a Spring Walk (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=349375)around the little lake we live on, I discovered some wild irises... Wanting to take a look, today, hoping more were in flower, I decided to take my pedal boat for a ride...

It's been unseasonably hot with 30+C temperatures... the humidex puts us at about 40C... We even went swimming yesterday afternoon... yes... it was darned COLD... invigorating, though!

And so, because the dock's in and my boat was at the ready, off I went... btw... getting into it this year is no small feat... my hips are less than cooperative, but I do suffer for my art... hehehe

Alas, the blooms on the irises were faded... there are still a couple buds, so I will have to make sure I visit this spot again later today...

SUCH a gorgeous day, even though the clouds were starting to roll in, I decided to pedal AROUND the lake...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-May-2006/20514-HPIM0234.JPG

Woops... caught the corner of my boat when taking this one... I'm paranoid that I'll drop my camera in the water...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-May-2006/20514-HPIM0235.JPG

The little man-made beach is deserted... it looks so LONELY and needs children laughing and running and splashing about...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-May-2006/20514-HPIM0240.JPG

Of course, because most of the shoreline growth just sort of happens, I'm always amazed WHERE stuff manages to take root...

HAH! The minute my back is turned... my husband is cutting the grass on that slope with his riding lawnmower!!! Three years ago, he ROLLED it from the top all the way down to the water...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-May-2006/20514-HPIM0247.JPG

This little bench on the North shore has bright blue armrests that almost offend the eye... but they do add some colour to all that green!

When this was still a working gravel pit, constructions companies were allowed to dump their scrap building materials... here we have a set of steps leading to??????

OMG, your husband rolled it into the water!!! Clearly he's okay now(physically anyhow, though mentally is up for debate ;o)), but did he hurt himself? Clearly he didn't learn his lesson though!!!!!

A beautiful new evergreen... rooted amongst the rocks... love it...

The Mama redwing blackbirds were having fits as I pedaled close to the shoreline... there must be a bunch of nests in there... I wish I had a better camera...

Awwwh... so sad... this egg never hatched is is now simply abandoned... after taking the picture, I scooped it up and brought it home... I have no idea what I'll do with the thing...

The Canada geese were out for their morning constitutional and were none too pleased that I was disturbing them... they took off just seconds after I snapped this...

I loved the patterns and shapes formed by the shale just under the water's surface...

Talk about trying to find your roots!!! I liked this so much, I took it from two different angles...

This shale outcropping was interesting too... of course, it will slice your feet to ribbons if you step on these bits...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-May-2006/20514-HPIM0275.JPG

I ran the boat aground so I could get out for a minute... it made the geese and blackbirds pretty mad, so I didn't stay long...

But I wanted to snap these yellow, daisy-like weeds that are just beginning to come out... they're quite thick along the shoreline and a brilliant band of yellow will be greeting us soon... that bit of driftwood looks like a wishbone...

ok... enough is enough... my hips are starting to complain, so I head the little boat for home...

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/30-May-2006/20514-HPIM0280.JPG

btw... it's much easier getting out of it than getting in... so... it's tied to the dock for another day...

 Emily... does he LOOK like he learned his lesson???? No... and, yes, he rolled it from the top of the slope all the way down to the water... he ended up beneath the tractor right at the water's edge... not seriously hurt at all!!!

And this man is a paramedic....tsk, tsk, tsk! *shaking head sadly* Does he really want his buddies coming to rescue him? I think not! :D

Next time I come over we're paddlin' g/f!
