Hello,

I am looking to purchase a silver point stylus and some of the already prepared paper. I saw the stylus on silverpointweb.com.... but they didn't have the paper. Does anyone know where else to purchase these supplies?
Also, I hear that the paper is simply coated with gesso. Has anyone used this?

Thanks!
Lisa

Hi Lisa,
I haven't used silver point but did look it up and I think you are right
it is just a gesso based that is used.

Also there is a paper premade
( Art Spectrum Colourfix Coated Pastel Paper )
that is used you can see it here

Here is a site you may like to look at for drawings

And lastly a website that may help locate supplies

Lisa I found some more information on making your own support and a few links to articles about technique.

I found this description to make your own silverpoint support:

Coat smooth, stretched, acid-free watercolor or drawing paper with white gouache.
The gouache can be tinted. Thin gouache to the consistency of cream and apply with wide flat brush using parallel strokes. Wait till dry to draw.
Other coatings for texture support are bone dust, gypsum and chalk, mixed with a glue size.

This article says to buy your wire on ebay, of course I should have thought of that. :)

Beatrice, thanks for this information.

Silverpoint paper is available through
New York Central Art supplies:
http://www.nycentralartsupply.com

Fabulous source of all things paper
Sennelier makes one but more difficult to access. You have to get in touch with the Paris store.
Or go there.....mmmm a good excuse, no?
