View Full Version : Portrait of Kate (Jen)
05-17-2006, 07:14 AM
I called her Kate because I have quite a few Jen's on my pute.
Photo courtesy of nonamac Thanks nonamac.
I think someone has posted a portrait of her before but I can't find it.
I wanted a smmoth image for a change, so after using and blending with my sargent brush I used a grainy blender brush. (C&C please)
I put the ose on a separate layer but probably not worth the bother.
BG was separate.

Gorgouse Berry!!!I love everything about this, the lighting and color especially. If I HAD to nitpick, i would say the onlything i could point out is the face line on our right her left seems to be a lil too strait (especially where the eye is).
Really great work berry!

Bare, I like it too! My nit would be that little shadow on her right cheek. Good work, Sir.:)

Frank Thanks and I'll look at that
Joel Thanks for the compliments, also. I think it could be taken down a tone or two, thanks.
Aggie, Thanks for looking and pleased you like it.

Have acted on Frank and Joel's, critiques and append the new portrait. I tried to pull her hair down more as in the ref photo and did a slight adjustment to the cheekbone on each side.

Hi Barry. Nice job on her. That rose, and hair are superb.
I do think the shadow above the viewers left, eye is too dark and makes the flesh over the brow bone look sunken and doesn't match the places where the shading should be similar. Also, the area under the viewers right eye could be blended a bit more to get rid of the harsh line where two colors meet.

Thanks Sherry, I will lokk at that.

Thanks for sharing your digital painting with me! What software, brushes, etc are you using?

Thanks Marge, much appreciated.
Nonamac, thanks for looking. I use Painter 8, and usually just the sargent brush which is under artists. In this case I also used a grainy blender brush, as a change from the rough look of the sargent brush. To lay a base I use a tinting brush to give the ssargent brush something to pick up, which otherwise it has difficulty doing on a layer.

Love the dramatic lights.

Thanks Maria. I went for a dramatic look. I keep thinking I'll do a watercoloury(?) one with lots of things fading away to nothing and lots of white, but when I start I just like deep darks!
