Saw a few monochrome faces here today. So I started reading and imitating the style of Giovanni Civardi (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1903975093/026-9223345-7786025) and was fascinated by it. Mostly straight lines using the sketching pencil in Painter 9.5, and then sketching the outline of some key features like the eyes and mouth. It's interesting how our brains give shape to such abstracts as straight lines and a few curves.

What's missing is some delicacy. I need to draw gentler, thinner lines in subtle places of the face. But this I thought was fun and interesting.

Oh yes, I started using the tracing feature on Painter. So the lines are a little strict, but still I liked it.

A strong image nevertheless, TWTom, especially with the sparse number of strokes

Barry, Annie,
Thank you for your support. I went back at it again with some more complexity and a little more sublety. I actually added some white chalk also.
