Morning All!

I can hear "weather" moving in. Wind is picking up and the forecast is for rain tonight and for the next few days. I hope so as the soil is DRY! I had the water on the garden (in different areas of course) for two days straight and the trees and gardens just sucked it up.

Have not much planned for tomorrow except for visiting my in-laws and maybe Sunday school, if my foot, which got run over by a door today (my fault):D, is up to it.

Take care.

04-30-2006, 01:14 AM
OUCH Christie!! {{{{{Christie}}}} How did you manage that?

We too are experiencing rain, and much needed also. We're forecast for rain everyday this coming week except one. Kind of looking forward to it. :)

Gosh, I've missed so much just not being here everyday. Lets see if I can remember any of it.

Amelia, what a job you had with that sale. Sounds like you did well on the books, and I'll bet you are just pooped! {{{{Amelia}}}}

Jean, I missed your anniversary, but sounds like you had a wonderful time...looks like it too with the pictures that you shared. HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

Hmmmm...lets see....I don't remember if Lyn posted yesterday, so I'll send her warm thoughts/white light/and good energy. {{{{Lyn}}}}

I dot a toad...and gifted by the grandsons once again. But, I plan on being over it soon.

ALPHABET SOUP to all in need. Greetings to all to come.

Hey Christie! Sunday already!!

We had a windy day too & there may be snow tmrw. It really seems too warm for that but hopefully a little rain. My flowers are coming up & the grass is green so have been feeling happy!!!

Went and got a greenhouse today. 8 x 10. It needs to be put together so hopefully Monday. I am soo excited!!!

Hello to all yet to come

04-30-2006, 01:17 AM
Hi Becky!

04-30-2006, 01:19 AM
Aww, Becky sorry about the toad.:D I caught mine from a child I tutor and them promptly shared it with the rest of the family.:D

My foot was in front of a double door at the health club. I was opening one door when the other door opened, thus running over my foot. Thank goodness I was wearing closed toes shoes! Just bruises, nothing broken, but I am limping... Still hurts when a dog sits on it.:D

Amelia, TWO attics! Yikes! Sounds like you are moving right along with getting things ready to go. Have you sold the house yet? I can't remember...

Hi Liz! Hope you guys get some of the rain too. Sound like you need it.

04-30-2006, 01:27 AM
Greetings Liz! :) Hey, they moved the smilies around again. That always confuses me.

Christie, the gift that keeps on giving.

I hope that the person apologized for opening the door on your foot. OUCH! {{{Christie}}} Yes, you were lucky to have closed-toed shoes on. :)

04-30-2006, 01:41 AM
Christie, the gift that keeps on giving.

I hope that the person apologized for opening the door on your foot. OUCH! {{{Christie}}} Yes, you were lucky to have closed-toed shoes on. :)

Yes, she felt very badly about it, even though it was all my own, stupid fault.:D

04-30-2006, 02:17 AM
{{{{Christie}}}} I hope it feels better tomorrow. :)

Hey Christie, Becky and Liz  ,

Just letting some paint dry so I thought I would check the wash.

Sorry about you foot Christie - hope it gets better soon.

Not to rub it in guys but we are now in the 80's here - the rain is finally gone!!!!

Have a great day

04-30-2006, 03:47 AM
Hi everyone.

(((((((((((((((((( Christie )))))))))))))))))) Ouch!I hope your foot feels better soon.

Hi Becky, thank you,it really was a wonderful anniversary.Definitely one to remember.

Hi Mark.What are you painting?

Bailey decided it was time to get up and after two late nights I didn't appreciate his early morning call but at least I have time to pop into the wash and see the gallery now.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day full of sunshine and smiles,

04-30-2006, 04:40 AM

Been away from the computer all day so I've been trying to catch up on yesterday's Wash

Ruth, someone posted the eagles link for you ...... did you get it? The server is so busy now that the hatching is imminent, you may have to keep trying before you can get on.

they feared she (woodpecker) was dead and called Ted over to have a look at her... Paramedics always know what to do with all manner of lifeforms, right?

LOL Char..... indeed they do! That reminds me of a couple of summers ago when we went away for a week and left our cat in the care of our next door neighbours (the husband was a paramedic) and half way through our holiday he called us to say our cat seemed to have a heart problem! I guess he was just laying around a bit too much so Rob used his stethescope to check him out.... well, when the cat finally died several months later, it was, indeed, from congestive heart failure!!! I believe Paramedics know more than some doctors......AND vets!

nandie - Was hoping that you would not start feeling bad again. How is your son doing who graduated last year. I beleive he went away to school to learn woodworking ????

Anita, Jonathan has finished his first year at the school and is now taking his first year apprenticeship out in Maple Ridge (suburb of Vancouver). We miss him, but he comes home for a visit about every 3 weeks just to remind us of how much he eats! Then we are happy to send him away again!

Andrea, I hope the doctors find the source of the problem soon! I'm so sorry you're not feeling well! ((((Hugs))))

Destany, (and everyone else who has commented) thanks so much for the concern. I still feel really sick all the time, but I am going to try to go back to work Monday night. Hopefully if I don't "overdo it" it won't get worse, and will just gradually get better as it has in the past. It will be interesting to see what the ultrasound turns up, but I still have not got the appointment for that yet. Nothing gets done on the weekend!

DH made me so mad once I tossed potato chips at him and he took the bag and shook them all out over my head.

LOL Amelia.... that gives a whole new meaning to, "let the chips fall where they may"!!!

I just finished watching "Flight 93" on TV..... what a moving, powerful film. I had no idea what all went on before that plane went down, what courageous people they were.

Have a good night everyone, I'm off to bed soon.

04-30-2006, 04:42 AM
Morning all

Dull morning here, the fine weather is gone for today I think.

((Christie)) hope your foot heals quickly - I'm still limping after my Achilles tendon incident 2 weeks ago. I think I need some stretching exercises.

Luckily we have gone though the year so far without anything but the odd sniffle, perhaps we should socialise more :)

Well, I have succumbed and put the oven on to bake an apple pie the Bramley apples are looking forlorn on the kitchen windowsill ;)

Then it's painting whilst trying to watch the snooker later on.

BBL Doug

04-30-2006, 05:07 AM
Just noticed my Clematis Alpina is now blooming - I love the shape of the flowers on this.

04-30-2006, 05:12 AM
Hi Gang,
Lovely Clemetis Doug

We had drizzle today, same for the last few days, easterly wind brings it off the sea. Tomorrow forecast looks better. Still we are coming towards winter down here.

Have been working on my studio room at our cottage, nearly finished, gib-board fitted, now just paint and wallpaper left to do:)

04-30-2006, 05:23 AM
Hi Rod,

Look forward to seeing a photo of your studio.

The garden is coming to life at last - about 3 weeks behind schedule:

04-30-2006, 06:35 AM

Where did April go????

I must be about better; I'm up to my usual go to bed at 11 p.m., awaken at 3:15 a.m. and can't get back to sleep routine. However, it's giving me a chance to catch up on the Daily Washes, etc. :)

Doug, your garden looks lovely.

Thanks, Becky, as you can see I'm feeling better! Hope your toad in de nose gets better. Mine moved to the chest. Yuk.

In the last 24 hours, I've finished up some of the chores needed for the Smoky Mountain Spring Art Fling. We still have room if anyone would like to join us for the weekend of May 12-14 with demos on the 13th by our very own Painterbear (Sylvia) and tep394 (Tom). Because of a couple of very generous contributors, there will be no cost to anyone for the Conference Center, the lunch on Saturday, etc. All underwritten. So, just your room and your food is the only cost. So, join us if you can!

I've never been disappointed in meeting any of the WC!ers
I've been lucky enough to meet in person! :D

Hope everyone who is sick or injured or emotionally hurting get better soon.

May your today be heaps better than your yesterday, no matter how great that was!

04-30-2006, 07:10 AM
Good Morning all,
It is a minute before 6:00 a.m. here in Oakwood and the sky is just barely beginning to lighten outside my nice CLEAN windows! (We still have the upstairs ones to do and the ones in the basement, but the main floor is done and even the sheers are clean!)

Today is our normal shopping day after a breakfast of blueberry muffins (thanks to Betty Crocker). ;) Not sure what is on the menu for dinner, haven't checked with DH yet.

Christie, Ouch and double Ouch for your poor foot. Hope it feels better today, but sometimes it hurts more the next day. {{{{Christie}}}}}

Becky, Drink lots of cranberry juice and orange juice for your cold—Vitamin C!

Liz, Have fun building and then filling your new greenhouse.

Mark, The 80°s are way too hot for me. I love the low 70°s temps we are having right now. :D

Jean, Give alarm-clock Bailey, whose motto is "Always on the Job!" a hug for waking you up to enjoy being out in your lovely garden.

Andrea, I'm not sure that I would be able to watch Flight 93 at this time. Even though five years have gone by since that terrible day, I still remember vividly what I went through emotionally as it happened. Those people on that doomed plane were very, very brave. :crying:

Doug, Ummmmm, your apple pie sounds delicious. I used to go to a little diner that served warm apple pie with a custard sauce poured over it (Creme Anglaise sauce as the French call it). It was one of the most delicious desserts I've ever had! You could expand your repetoire by learning to make that sauce along with your pie. I think you and Ruth would like it.

Your garden photos are lovely. Glad you are getting to enjoy the blossoms before you leave for your vacation in the States.

Rod, Looking forward to seeing some new paintings when you are finished building your studio.

Lyn, I'm so glad you are feeling well enough to check in and chat. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Spring Fling too.

Off to check out a few new threads if WC cooperates and opens them for me.

04-30-2006, 07:32 AM
Hi Lyn,

Glad you're getting into the groove again :) My garden is only 30 ft square and is progressively getting more untidy  Must clear out the weedy stuff and plant more alpines this summer.

When the pie won't stand up without the dish (apples too wet) that's how we eat it, Sylvia, but I get our custard out of a carton ;)

Well, had to go out and get eggs before I could bake the chocolate cake, but it's all done, kitchen cleaned and cake in the oven now.

04-30-2006, 08:15 AM
 all ................ thanks for cyber elastic and beams... feeling 'chirpier' today and busy nesting ;)

04-30-2006, 08:31 AM
Mornin each:wave:

When the pie won't stand up without the dish (apples too wet) that's how we eat it, Sylvia, but I get our custard out of a carton ;)

A carton!!! A carton!!!! A man who makes his own apple pie uses custard from a carton, you should be ashamed!!!!!!!

Sylv we have a saying here, if having apple pie and someone wants to know how much custard you want the reply would be 'Up ta thumb', that means so full of custard that when the person carrying the dish to the table would get their thumb covered in custard, if they chose the grab method of carrying the dish.:D

I've been for a long walk this morning with the dogs took the camera with me so hopefully some nice shots, took loads of cows and trees and a few distant buildings for some paintings I have in mind. I just need them to leap to the end of my brush now:wink2: :D

We lit the chimnea last night and sat out drining beer and wine, grilled a lovely fillet steak on the fire, magic:thumbsup:

Twisted my knee yesterday doing all those gardeny things like mowing and raking and planting and weeding, anyway I slipped down some steps at the top of the garden, hurt my wrist as I fell and didn't really think I'd hurt my knee, but it's swollen this morning. Had to put a support bandage on before we set out for our walk.

Putting my feet up now. Got plans in my head for rearranging the house a little more, we need to free up a bedroom again now that we have 4 grandkids and sometimes they stay together for a sleepover, and when friends stay over need that extra room for sleeping in. So my little studio will have to go back to being a bedroom and I'll move my stuff into the larger bedroom so it can be both bedroom and studio combined.

It would be much easier to convert the walk-in wardrobe we have to another bedroom and then everything could stay as it is, but Chris (DW) likes the room the way it is!!!!!!!!!! I am just a man, I obey!!!

Anyway the knee may not hold up to do much today as I was about to get started, so my just have to get the beer out and watch the football,:wink2: my local team Preston are through to the playoffs for promotion to the Premiership next season. They did the same last year but lost in the final, so 4 more games and we will know their fate.

04-30-2006, 08:52 AM
Good morning Washers!!! The furnace is running! Looks and feels like *weather* is going to happen here today too...

Ted finally remembered to buy some niger seed and the sweet little goldfinches are feeding nonstop...

I have no plans for the day... Matt has to work a shift this afternoon, and Ted is working his last night shift tonight... I think we'll just make this an easy day...

I managed to get myself a sinus headache yesterday... nasty things that hit once in awhile during the spring... took some aspirin, had a nap... it's gone...

Oh, Christie... *shudder*... I hope your poor bruised toodie is better today!

Sorry about dhe toad, Becky... be careful, you don't want a frog in your throat... now there's positive thinking! But, I plan on being over it soon.

Congratulations on the greenhouse, Liz!!! Hoping you get rain and not snow!!!

Hi Mark... *laughing* we're glad for the rain up here...

Hi Jean... early morning is the BEST time of day... Bailey is a smart pooch...

Hi Nandie... I watched the nest for quite awhile yesterday... the servers are definitely getting bogged down... hope your energy is coming back (again)...

Hi Doug... I have 3 over ripe bananas that need baking into a bread and some apples getting soft that want to be a crisp... so, I guess I DO have plans today after all... I love my apple pie served with a generous piece of sharp cheddar...

Your garden looks beautiful!!! (I did notice the weedy grass bits... hehehe)

Hi Rod... I'll bet you're REALLY looking forward to moving into that Studio!!! How about some progress pics?

Hi Lyn... your Gathering is coming up pretty quickly, isn't it? How lucky that you have such talented demo-ers... yah, I know it's not a word... :D

 Syl... mmmmmmmm..... blueberries....

What a GREAT pic, JT!!! Glad you're chirpy today... Has Helen gone home?

Oh, Kev... that poor knee... we have a similar problem here... When all the kids are home, we need so much more bedroom space... then... they're gone and it becomes unused and wasted... for us, this only happens a couple times a year, though...

:grouphug: Warm thoughts and positive energy beaming to everyone... hawltain and soup!

04-30-2006, 08:53 AM
Morning everyone!

I'm up way too early for a Sunday. DH working again today, weather is still yucky. At least I have something to do today! I wish the kids did, but maybe it'll clear up later so they can go outside and play. They were so bored by last night they started playing Scrabble. Not exactly the type of game for a six year old and eight year old, especially considering that the six year old can't read yet, lol.

Christie, your foot thing sounds painful! I've done things like that.

Becky I hope your cold is shortlived!

Liz, awesome about the greenhouse! I'd love to get one, one of these days.

Mark, have fun with your painting, will you post it?

Morning Jean!

((((Andrea)))) I do hope you feel better soon! Don't let your boss lady work you too hard!

Doug, your pie sounds darn good right now :D Forgive me my ignorance, but what's a snooker? Is that the name of a t.v. show? Oh and your garden pictures are wonderful! I can't wait until my flowers bloom but I don't even have that many. I forgot to get my seeds yet, so they'll be going in late. Mmmm, chocolate cake... Now I know my frozen berry cobbler just isn't going to taste that good, I'm going to be thinking of chocolate cake all day long!

Hi Rod! Too bad about your yucky weather.

I wish I had a studio. But even if I did I'd probably end up in the living room anyway.

Lyn, the Smokey Mountain Art Fling sounds like a blast!!! I'd love to join in, but unable to travel :( Some day...

Morning Sylvia!

Jaytee! Nice picture!

Kev, I hope your knee and wrist feel better soon! I'm practically exhausted from reading what you did yesterday and what you plan to do today. The beer and game sound better IMO. Too bad for me I'm off the beer and (American) football season won't start for a few more months. Draft started yesterday though!!!

Oops, crossposted Char. Morning Char! We've had our furnace on all week too.
Just finishing up my warm coffee flavored water then I'm off for drawing :) See you all later!

Little Old Lady
04-30-2006, 09:13 AM
Finally got in early today.
Glad to see Lyn up and about. Sure wish I could join the Spring Fling. Have not been fortunate enough to meet any WCers.
Working on what should be my final church newsletter. Next month get off 2 boards!Hurray!
We are supposed to ge some needed rain here too.
Find if I use quick reply that things go faster.
Have a good one.
Alphabet soup.

04-30-2006, 09:15 AM
Hello chaps. I do not like custard in any form. Regardless of lineage.

Just thought you should now.

04-30-2006, 09:17 AM
Good Morning Everyone!! Going to be another wonderful day, although yesterday the cold wind almost overpowered the hot sun.

Art and Craft show yesterday was very good, since the entrance fee is soooooo high ($ 280 in spring and $ 380 in fall) it has developed into a really first class show, wonderful craftsmanship. One of the ladies who used to paint watercolour switched to acrylics and I tell you, they took my breath away, not the subjewct matter, but the colours. Red, Orange, Yellow, Purple, all covered with high gloss varnish - eye candy indeed!!!

Today Lunch Bunch is meeting at our out of town friends' place so looking forward to a nice afternoon of yak, yak:D

Lawn people were here yesterday to inspect the eaten up parts and decided it wasn't the thread thin worms I found but "white Grubs" which ate the roots of the grass last fall hence no new green grass. I am going to send them an email because that is why I paid them $ 76 last year, to kill them off before they could lay eggs which then eat the roots:rolleyes:

Doug, your garden is just lovely and no sign of bunnies or grubs to be found:envy:

I read yesterday's and today's wash, HAWLTAIN and lots of good soup for those not up to par!!!! Christie and Kev - OUCH:crying: :crying:
 Uschi

04-30-2006, 09:18 AM
Doug, your pie sounds darn good right now :D Forgive me my ignorance, but what's a snooker? Is that the name of a t.v. show?

Check out the BBC Sport video (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport), Highlights: Dott 17-11 O'Sullivan Snooker is the original game that spawned pool. Much more difficult with a 12ft x 6 ft table and tighter pockets.

Just watching mummy blackbird tearing my thyme to shreds to build her nest. I wish she would take a liking to some of the weeds instead

Ouch Kev, Christie, no fun limping around is it? When we went to Southport yesterday, folks would have had a hard time deciding which one of us was the disabled one.

04-30-2006, 09:18 AM
Good evening from me.

I have been trying to tidy my office and put theings away as Alan has put pullout shelves in one of my cupboards.

I am trying to keep my mind busy as my chat with Johanne earlier today really unerved me.. Then I found a letter from Micheline..

I must get a box for my Micheline Memory box..

JoAnn does that mean you will have more time to paint?? :)

I have read all the wash, but I am emotionally too exhausted to respond..

04-30-2006, 09:34 AM
Afternoon!

I believe I am fully recovered! Glad to see Lynmom is feeling more like herself, too :)

Yummy apple pie, I'd love to bake but I have such a terrible weakness for sweet cakes and pies that I'd end up even bigger than I already am :o I blame my Nana, she was a fabulous cook and baked every weekend for us! My preference was to have lots and lots of evaporated milk (out of a tin, but not the nasty condensed stuff) on my pie

Giggled at the stories about food throwing yesterday. I'm extremely ashamed to admit that I once threw a knife at my DH :o Even worse, Amy had just started writing her "news book" at school (she was 5) and included her account of the incident "mume throo a nif at dade" In my defense, it was a very blunt butter knife and it didn't hit him!

Love the photo, JT! Cute blue tit! :D

(((((Christie))))) ouch!

Your garden looks great, Doug! I like the slightly overcrowded look myself, just wish my DH would leave ours alone so it could reach that stage, but he keeps cutting everything down

Destany, I'm like you, I don't have room for a studio, but I enjoy being in the middle of things in the living room, so it wouldn't be used much if I had one! Snooker is a game, a little like pool or billiards, but on a bigger table - it can be quite exciting!

(((((((Andrea)))))))) Lots more white light!

Kev, sorry about your knee :( Good luck to Preston, Hereford are in the play-offs to get back into the league for the 3rd year in a row - they'd better do it this time, not sure I can live with another defeat! DH and Craig hope to be in Morecambe next Sunday, if they can get tickets.

Time for a bite to eat, back later!

Big hugs,

04-30-2006, 09:52 AM
They were so bored by last night they started playing Scrabble. Not exactly the type of game for a six year old and eight year old, especially considering that the six year old can't read yet, lol.

Destany, that one had me spitting tea all over the monitor! :D Wish you could be here for the Fling, too.

Good to "see" you here, too, and wish you could be with us at the FlingJoAnn!

Ruth, yes, I do believe we are both doing better!

Char :D

Once, my dad threw a piece of toast at my mom. She picked it up, buttered it, and threw it back. It was when I was a teenager and they were arguing over me. Mom said after I left home, they didn't have much to argue about. (My brother was still there, but, then, he was "the perfect one.") :D

04-30-2006, 10:01 AM
LOL about the food fights :D

Not exactly a fight, but one of Ruth's occasional delicacies was a slice of toast and sweet condensed milk (like honey). One day she was holding ia full slice up to her mouth just ready for the first bite and I tipped her hand up so that he face was covered in milk :D :D I have always been a little nervous ever since when eating sticky things with Ruth around :)

Yes, Char, I'm afraid there is grass there - it grows out of the rockery and is hard to eliminate.

04-30-2006, 10:41 AM
 Doug... I've been pulling grass out of the garden for two weeks, now!!! Almost finished... dratted stuff...

If we're sharing *food* stories... I've never thrown anything... but I did flush a whole meal down the toilet, one bowl at a time!

It's my habit to make one or two soups on the weekend... We have a meal of one and I put the other up in jars to serve at lunch time through the week...

I'd made beef barley soup (and one other that I don't remember... probably chicken and rice)... anyway, I served the beef soup for dinner with nice crusty rolls and a salad...

Jonathon (Army Son and 12 at the time) was a VERY picky eater... He said, "there are bug legs in my soup..."

Christopher (West Coast Son and 13 at the time) decided to defend his brother... "Yup," he said, "there's definitely bugs in the soup, Mom..."

Ted, enamoured of being a new Stepfather and wanting to support the boys, said "Honey, there really does seem to be bug legs in the soup..."

I glared at him...

Very calmly and deliberately, I got up from the table... collected each one of their soup bowls and flushed the contents down the toilet. I put the bowls in the sink to be washed... donned my coat and went for a walk...

After that... ummmm... episode... I went on *strike* for almost two weeks... never cooked a thing...

It's only been recently, nearly 20 years later, that they've even mentioned the bug legs... hehehe

04-30-2006, 11:05 AM
Afternoon!

Ruth, sorry but I had to stop reading here as I started giggling!! A KNIFE!!! lol That's funny that Amy told of the incident at school for the "news book". I guess I'm not a "thrower" when I get mad, but I do tend to beat on the offender's chest like a crazy woman. :D

Kev, sorry to hear about yer knee..OUCH!!

Joel...thanks for informing us that you do not like any species of custard. I will write that down. :)

Christie, I hope your hurt foot heals soon.

I hate hearing crickets in my studio!!! Steve has a green water dragon lizard and he has to feed it crickets...and keeps them in a large plastic container and puts them in here overnight, because they are so noisy. I need to get up and move them into another room. I can just see us at 80 years old, moving this container of crickets from room to room.

We've been having a lot of rain lately, and hail, but today the sun is out and it's a gorgeous day!!! I need to get in gear and go for a walk this afternoon.

Have a good one!

04-30-2006, 11:05 AM
ROFL!!! Char, that is just perfect! I've wanted to do that so many times, lol! I'm loving these stories! Flying toast, messy faces (Doug, that's so mean :D )! Ruth, WOW! I started giggling and then realized you threw a KNIFE! LOL! Too funny, it's good we can all laugh about our outbursts years later!

Thanks Doug and Ruth for explaining Snookers too!

Good morning from sunny (yes! Sunny!) Port Angeles, Washington. Haven't had a minute to check WC since we got here, but this morning is a little slower. DH is going to an early youth jazz band concert, but I'm staying in for a little bit. Jazz festivals can be fun, but for us they're also work, so I'm tired. We're going home tomorrow . . .

Been checking on the eagles when I can - luckily people are posting lots of screen shots and videos, so it's easy to catch up. Nandie, thanks again for the links to the site. I've been watching for . . . about three weeks, I think . . . and it's been a wonderful experience. I'm looking forward to their whale cam, too, when it's time for the whales to come back.

It's a little frustrating to be within shouting distance of the ferry to Victoria and not able to go over there - it's such a beautiful place!! No time, though. And tomorrow will be taken up with getting back to SeaTac by flight time.

Looks like my "I" bird will be late unless I have a chance to do it Tuesday, which I doubt.

Christie - ouch! And I hear you about dogs sitting on owies!

I can't think of any food fights. I did throw a heavy glass at ex-DH once, bu it was meant to hurt!! LOL Missed . . . darn!!

Doug, slip me a piece of that chocolate cake, wouldja? Nothing to eat in this hotel room and I'm hungry!

Guess I should make a stab at getting ready for the day. Y'all have a good one!!!

04-30-2006, 12:22 PM
Morning again,
We just got back from the grocery store with a load of wonderful fruits and veggies which I have already blanced and put in the fridge for use this week. My bestest find was some young, fresh SPRING asparagus! Yummy, we'll have it tomorrow! Tonight we are doing beef tacoes and it really doesn't go with that.

Kev, I would be in the Up ta the fingers group for sure. Unlike Joel, I LOVE custard in any form, especially creme brulee!

Your throwing stories put me in mind of one from my teen years (yes, I can still remember that far back )—once when I was being the charming teenager and "discussing" something with my Mom, I pushed one button too many and she threw whatever she had in her hand at me (don't remember what it was). Anyway, she threw it low so it wouldn't hit me in the face, but I saw it coming and ducked...so it wouldn't hit me in the face. Welllllll, you guessed it, I ducked right into it and it hit me on the top of my head. If you've ever seen a scalp wound, you know they bleed like crazy, even small ones do. I milked that baby and the subsequent guilt feelings it aroused in my Mom for quite a while. It did teach me one thing though, I've never thrown something at anyone, no matter how mad I was. LOL!

I'm off to the Image Library to find a reference photo to use for my pouring Demo at the Spring Fling. Whatever possessed me to volunteer???? ;)

Morning [it's just after 8:00 AM here] all,

Good to read your posts...

Christie - OUCH! Hope the foot feels better soon

Doug - nice garden pics; apple pie sounds real good right now

Lyn - glad you're feeling better

jaytee - another neat bird photo

Kev - busy, busy; as always. Hope the knee holds up. Beer & football - now that's living!

Char - it's always a pleasure to read your caring, newsy posts.

Destany - nice to read what's going on with you

JoAnn & Joel - glad you popped in

Uschi - another of our regulars, busy as usual

JJ - Can't have a Wash without you!

Ruth - yet another regular; I enjoy your posts

Patty (Starsprite) - always laughing about something. And now chasing crickets.

Cathie, fellow SoCal-ian. On a trip? Yet you still find a way to visit us.

Sorry for any I've missed or who cross-post.

I've had some moderate good luck the past few days:

* Won $56 in the lottery last week, an another small amount last night
* Getting the Art League's website closer to what I want

And the best good news - the Art League's Juried Show. We got everything entered and hung. I stayed around to take photos as the judge went through the many entries. And (color me stunned), out of maybe 50 entries in the Photography category, one of mine got 1st place. She even considered it [for a while] for one of the 2 major awards. And another of my photos just missed out on the final cut for an Honorable mention.

I'm really looking forward to the Awards reception (on the 6th), where I'll get my 10 minutes of fame and a small cash award. Here's hoping some sales come from this. (And my price for this photo just went up! I'm asking more than double what I sold it for the first - and only - time.

Anyway, you've seen the photo before, but here's another look at "After the Storm":

This is the featured photo on the home page of my website; if you want to see it a little larger, here's a link: http://mysite.verizon.net/droll13/

LOL at Char's "bugs legs" - David won't eat anything with currants "dead flies" in it to this day :)

Ruth just reminded me what happens when you don't appreciate the work going into meal preparation. She once brought in the TV dinner and of course we three guys were glued to the set. Seeing no-one prepared to move she simply let the tray of food drop to the floor - saying "Help yourself!" :D

Congratulations on the awards, Dave , richly deserved. You have come a long way since you started taking it seriously.

There you go Cathie;)

I guess y'all might get the wrong idea if I tell about how...in a previous life....I threw an iron at Dinky as he was walking out the front door... (it was the only thing available)..and then there was the time I threw a brick at his pickup as he was backing out of the driveway..... ... He could get me so angry I couldn't breathe... He laughed so hard at the brick thing he stopped and chased me back into the house for a hug... p.s. I can't throw anything that heavy more than 5 feet!! David's never made me that mad, but he's come close...

Char... I love the soup flush!! I'm so stubborn I'd probably have done the non-cooking for a couple of weeks also!!:D ...BugLegs!! Probably added a nice crunch..

Ruth, sorry you told that it was a butter knife....:D

Oooooh, Doug.... Women do have long memories, you know..... I think you're right to be on guard when eating something sticky....

Sprite... Crickets are waaay too noisy for me, too. I'd have to tell David to remove them to the shed in the back yard...

Lyn...Toast fights.... You took a little of the "spark" with you when you left home!!:D

Hey JJ.... a memory box sounds like a great idea. I bet you could make something wonderful and it would be therapeudic at the same time...

Uschi, your Lunch Bunch sounds like so much fun... That grub worm thing sounds awful. I hope we never get anything like that...

Joel, I promise I will never feed you custard in any form...

Good morning, JoAnn...

Christie, I've been meaning to congratulate you on the twins just arrived in your family.... Aren't you glad it isn't you???..:D

Good morning, Princess Albert... Scrabble with a 6 y.o. sounds about my speed this morning..:D

Hey Becky.... Hope you get over your coad very quickly.... They ain't no fun...

Hi Liz..... I'm envious about the greenhouse... I've always wanted one!!

Hey Mark.... It's great you have sunshine... I'm not ready for summer heat, tho.. I'd rather have 70's than 80's....

Good morning, Jean.... I think I'd put Bailey in jail for waking me up extra early!! I don't do early morning very well...:D

Hey Nandie... I sure hope you are on the road to feeling a lot better and that a slower work schedule will be a big benefit...

Hi Rod... Yep, show us your new studio!!

Sylvia, your window washing sounds soooo energetic!! I get tired just thinking about it....:D It is a wonderful feeling, I'm sure and I'd love to have our windows sparkling, but it won't happen soon around here....

Jaytee... Your bird pics are always so wonderful.... I'm glad you're perkier today...

Kev, "up to a thumb" in custard sounds delicious to me. I've never had custard with apple pie, but I'd like to try it...

Cathie... hope you're enjoying your jazz festival and I'm so sorry your BillyGoats won't be getting nearly as good draft choices as the Cowboys today!!:D

What the heck is up with cats? Stinky, aka FuzBut, had developed the habit of dropping his favorite mouse of the moment into his water dish and then gingerly fishing it out after it has soaked a bit... He doesn't like to play with it when it is sopping wet, but if you squeeze it out in a towel sometimes he'll drop it back in the water....

I must have lunch now.... Will be taking Nick home to his mother right after. She volunteered to help with Eyore's Birthday Party yesterday... Austin will have a festival at the drop of a hat!! I missed Spam-a-rama this year and wish I hadn't...:D

See y'all later....

p.s. Congratulations, Jutta!! and just send on some of that wonderful syrup, ok?

p.s. again... Dave... Congratulations on your win!! Your photographs deserve the ultimate!!

04-30-2006, 02:37 PM
Just to reming UK folks that "The Impressionists" is just starting on BBC1 TV.

04-30-2006, 02:45 PM
Dave and Jutta, CONGRATS!!!
I'm very excited for you both, you deserve it!

Doug, I'm drooling!

Sylvia! I can't believe your mother threw something at you! You must have been really awful, and she must have felt REALLY guilty!!!

Emilie, LOL! I've never thrown anything more harmful than a cheeseburger, thankfully!!! At least, not at another person!

04-30-2006, 03:17 PM
Jutta, congratulations!

Thanks for all the sympathy about my foot. Nothing is broken and it does not hurt so much, so I am a happy camper.

Food throwing is something that my mother was a champion of. She used to pitch loaves of frozen bread (impressive spread pattern when it hits the wall behind you), egg (hard boiled, but occasionally she would make a mistake :D), heads of lettuce, tomatoes.... all of which was thrown at my brothers as I was smart enough to leave home when they hit puberty and she hit menopause at the same time.:D:evil:

Doug, that is one nice looking set of desserts!

Glad people are starting to feel better.

Uschi, sorry to hear about the grubs. Hope you are able to get the company to deal with the problem.

It did in fact rain last night and it is only just above freezing here right now. Of course, Katherine is out riding her bike!:D She has put in a request for cream of tomato soup and cheese scones for lunch " "cause it's cold out there you know".:D:rolleyes:

Hi to everyone else. I guess I should go bake.:)

04-30-2006, 03:47 PM
Thanks for your congrats :o i don't usually brag about work but this is such a biggie that i just had to :)

Anyhow, here's DH idea of a stillife

beautiful arrangement!! Here's my greedy fingers going for it

04-30-2006, 03:53 PM
Hey Jutta - never seen that form of dessert before - what is it?

04-30-2006, 04:26 PM
It's a 'lost apple' cake.
Just an ordinary cake dough (baking powder) with apple halves put in it.
Also works well with cherries, mmmh.

04-30-2006, 04:32 PM
Good idea, Jutta, presumably a sweet apple?

04-30-2006, 04:32 PM
Congratulations on the successful endeavor. That sounds like a really exciting opportunity. Your DH's still-life looks very tasty, too.

Speaking of looking tasty, I would love a piece of that chocolate cake with a tall glass of milk. You are quite the baker.

More congratulations for you on your success in the competition! Your photos deserve LOTS of prizes, glad you had a judge who was as discerning as we are.

My Mom was a wonderful lady, but I just happened to be more verbal than she was  and could usually wind her up. Remember that old saying of Moms around the world: Some day, one of your kids will do the same thing to you, then you'll be sorry! Yep, one of my kids was quite the arguer and could drive me up the wall a LOT! :D

I'm still searching the Image Library for something to paint. Why is it some day's nothing strikes your fancy?

04-30-2006, 04:38 PM
CONGRATULATIONS JUTTA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And wow ,that cake looks fabulous, could you share the recipe please?

Doug! I am really going to be envious of Kington if you take cakes like that along! By the way I saw Ruths new cross stitch and it looks wonderful.Your paintings in the learning zone are terrific too so I hope everyone gets a chance to see them.

Kev,I hope your knee feels better soon.

I loved the stories of throwing things etc.As I disappoint my two dogs by regularly throwing sticks that either go so high they land in trees or no further than landing at my feet I think I'd best give throwing anything at anyone a miss!:o

Doug,isn't the Impressionists great?

04-30-2006, 04:40 PM

Busy day with youngest son's kids and then off to middle son's hoiuse for a cookout (burgers and such) with four of the grandkids, twoa sons, and dILs.

Jaytee, talking of photos that one of a blue tit is to die for!

04-30-2006, 04:53 PM
Hello, all...

Not a good day; got up not feeling well, house warm,
self freezing. Back to bed and just got up at 3:30pm

that :(

 to all here and YTC :grouphug: BBL, maybe.

04-30-2006, 05:34 PM
Evening all,
just popping by to say hello. Been working all day on my studio I'm busy redecorating and reffiiting it. it is supprising how much more there is to do once you get started. I had to put all my painting stuff away at the start and am now getting serious withdrawl symtoms, hope to be finish in a couple of days.
Jutta congratulations.
best wishes to all ken.

04-30-2006, 05:49 PM
Straight from the naughty corner: Here's the recipe

200gr butter or baking margarine
220gr sugar
teaspoon vanilla essence
3 eggs

mix together until very smooth,
then add

400gr flower
2 teaspoons of baking powder

add milk until a smooth dough, not drippy

Line baking sheet with baking paper, put dough on it.

Peel apples, cut in half and remove core. slightly cut the outside of the apples.
approx. 10 med. sized apples
I used Braeburns in this one, Boskoop or Delicious apples work fine too.

Bake at 180°C in preheated oven for approx. 45 min.

you can also sprinkle it with powdered sugar once cooled off.
Or use about 600gr canned cherries instead of the apples

This cake is Tim's favorite and he always wants it for his birthday :)

Hi Ken

Jo, sounds like your still having a cold. Do take care of yourself and EAT something!!!

Mike, have fun at the cook out

Jean, i'm not good at throwing sticks or THE BALL for the dog either.
Here's our all time great story: Volker was out playing with Isis throwing her ball when he hit a flying bird  just imagine that!!!! Poor bird was weezing but flew on

04-30-2006, 08:04 PM
Jutta, thank you :) I think it's allergies, no fever or
cough, just sneezing like crazy and c-o-l-d (as in
wrap in a duvet to get warm :)) Temp has not been above
56 all day and now going down further...

I so wish I liked to cook, yours, Doug's and Sylvia's
recipes always sound scrumptious. BTW, I did eat a small
meal a bit ago...

I'm reading the Wash now....

(((Nandie, JJ))) Feel better!

Dave, congratulations I'm not surprised that your
sunset won a First ... it's gorgeous.

I'll be around for a while... to all

Well Sunday’s almost over and I’m just getting to the wash. My buddy Dave came over this afternoon and we did my studio – what a job. I had brought assorted frames and boards from Mother’s house in 2000 and had room for them but not room in Florida. The biggie was emptying my 5 drawer flat file – I had kept every rubbish painting I’ve done since I had room. Now only have about ¼ of them – enough to fit in a portfolio. Still have some rubbish paintings but they are ones that I really learned from and don’t want to forget the lesson. The flat file is going to by DIL in Atlanta.

The other things I did is we watched Narnia – it was wonderful! Then today I watched the 2nd disc with lots of interviews and how-we-did-thats from the film. I really think they made a perfect movie. You could teach a whole semester class on C.S. Lewis’s theology and moral lessons from the movie. The English children were superb and the scenery from New Zealand’s South Island was WOW. They filmed chronologically which was a good thing because the children grew several inches while it was being done!

Destany, I love your composition now and the plate makes a super COI with all the reflections in it.

Doug, love your clementis

Becky, sorry about the told – so nice of the kids to pass it to you

Ken, hope you’re OK ((((((((()))))))))) a slip like that can be terrible.

Rod, how nice to hear from you.

Christie ((((((((())))))))) even hurts when the dog sits on it LOL

Doug, I don’t understand about the custard in apple pie – maybe you mean the same as I would call “pie filling”. I love Ruth dumping the food on the floor – wish I’d done that ☺

Ruth and Lyn, glad you two are feeling better

Jaytee, that’s my bird – such a pretty one!

Patty, at least the crickets are in a cage. We get them trying to get inside – yuck

Christie, is ex-DH an oxymoron?

Dave, congrats

Jutta, and congrats to you also!!!!!! Your baked yummy looks delish

Jo, I hope tomorrow you feel better – bad time of year for allgeries

WLAHTAIN and :grouphug: see ya manana

Well, my rope is not in Ottawa! After walking around all day I know that for nuffin!

I coulda' told you that!!

Hi Mark.What are you painting?

I am painting the entrance to the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. A very beautiful place if you ever get the chance to go (if you haven't ). DW and I spent a lot of time there in our college days, spent our honeymoon there and last year went back and spent our 20th anniversary there. It is an old stone building on the road to the actual hotel.

Destany, I think I will post this one. I am so particular because of all of the talent here that I sometimes get a little intimidated. Just need to post it and get all of the good C&C the group gives.

Busy busy day today and I am just now getting some paint time in at 8:00PM.

 to all before and after.

Hope all had a great day and a better tomorrow.

Pflaumenkuchen (Schnitten)

Gesundheit! :D

And Doug's apple pie made my mouth water too. Is that short crust pastry Doug..

Yes, 50g lard, 50g margerine, 200g self raising flour, 25g sugar, pinch of salt, water.

Forgot to say congratulations on the contract, Jutta.

Look forward to seeing your painting Mark.
