One of the things I love about the eyes is that there's a gentle exaggeration (to my view, but I've never seen the subject!) lifting it away from realism. Not quite caricature. But something about this I have to believe just captures the personality of the little girl, and emphasizes it for all of us to enjoy.
It's hard to tear myself from the eyes, but I really appreciate the skill it took to do the shape and feel of her jawline too.

Thanks Nancy Ellen, Aggie, Marge and Tom
Tom on portraits I trace an outline then place the outline on a blank canvas
(wouldn't want to fly under false colours :) otherwise you would never know who they are .) If free handing I usually say and I'm sure people can tell when I do. Here is the eye portion of Sarah's photo (her Mom didn't want me to post the whole photo )http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/03-May-2006/36920-saraheyes.jpg
