Hi Cindy!
This is so interesting! The choice to use a painterly approach with the bread and other objects against the knife-textured table is exciting. That along with the plate seeming to slip off the table add to the tension in what might otherwise be a quiet composition if painted in a conventional, all-over sameness. Not to mention all that red! Wheee! Very dynamic, and it's just bread, for pete's sake. A testament to your painting powers. Can you tell I like it? lol.
Take care, all the best--
Barbara

All the shapes in this work are oval in nature. Even the knife has a rounded tip. The one exception is the way you handled that container in the lower left corner. Although we see an oval opening, it seems to move around a set of clear angles, as if it were a geometric shape. Perhaps if it where rounded out a bit more, it would go better with the other objects.

bottleman,
thanks
This one didn't quite come together - your words help me understand why.

the composition and the power of the colors are super but when it comes to knives and red .. I'm gone .. too much like a butcher table for my eyes.

I like this one ...it is very robust and sustaining...intention or not ,it tells the story ....bread is a staple of life.

I love the bread, but, art moron that I am, the perspective of teh cup and the color similarity between the table top and floor/background bother me a little. As usual, though, another very good "your style" painting.
