This is my second in a series I am doing took me all afternoon to get this drawn using the grid with lots of erasing  I know, that is pathetic LOL someday I will be able to do like alot of you with the sketching but untill then I rely on crutches.

No need to be embarassed, many artist through the centries have used that method of creating their paintings often from smaller drawings that they then enlarged using a grid to fit the canvas they were painting on. Enjoy painting your subject, digitally you have and advantage in that you can put the drawing on a layer on top of the canvas and not obscure it with paint like what happens when we use real paint on canvas. LOL
This promises to get good ....i'll be looking for more advances...:)

Hey...Marge, you're WAY ahead of me! I would LOVE to draw this well with a grid. :o This will be a wonderful series.

Looks like it's going to be a good one Marge. Don't worry about tracing or using a grid. I bet you would be suprised at how many artists do the same for the layout of a painting.

Terrific Marge! Whats the background going to be?
04-13-2006, 12:55 AM
Thank you Sherry and Joel
The background is a chapel which I did with the airbrush in order to keep it very soft and kind of push it back...I hope it did anyway.
Just realized I forgot the cross on his vestments. So this is an update LOL
04-13-2006, 01:48 AM
Lovely work ! and I am glad to meet a fellow grid user !!! :)
04-13-2006, 07:26 AM
Thank you Andie  yes you have to love those grids especially when you have alot you want just right..although it is a slow process atleast I find it to be.
Well added the cross and was not happy with his skull cap so I worked on it some (erased part and redid..it was too large) added some tiny details throughout here and there. LOL
04-13-2006, 09:57 AM
Marge...this is inspired!   I hope you are doing this at a large size and a printable resolution. I would love to see you take this to gliclee.
04-13-2006, 02:13 PM
Marge, I am watching the progress of this work. So far I like it a lot. Wasn't he an awsome human beeing.?
04-14-2006, 12:59 AM
Thank you Skinny and Annie! Yes Skinny I am painting at 400dpi and I have already printed out a trial and it came out beautifully almost 8X10:cat:
04-14-2006, 08:47 AM
Marge, your painting is inspired!... just magnificent! Take another look at the shadows near and between the fingers... they appear to be too heavy.
04-14-2006, 09:38 AM
Joel...Thank you so much for your input on this I never even noticed that and I do so want this to be as perfect as I can get it since I am doing this as a grouping to hang on the wall. You know how I struggle with portraits. LOL How is this now?
04-14-2006, 11:01 AM
Marge, for me, that made a huge difference!!!... I mean huge!
Normally, I would give only one suggestion, but since you seem to really want input, I think that the bright area on the torch in front of him should be toned way down (it keeps drawing my eye away from the pope)... and perhaps just play up the flame at the top. Marge of course, this is only an opinion.:)
04-14-2006, 11:50 AM
Excellent observations, Joel!
04-14-2006, 12:52 PM
Marge, this is turning out just great!
04-14-2006, 01:21 PM
I'm loving watching this Marge, it's already a fabulous painting
04-14-2006, 02:02 PM
Joel...you are right I took the one I printed out and backed away from it and the candle is definitely competing with the Pope for center stage... so I was not exactly sure how to tone it down so I added some colors and shadows from around it. If that makes sense LOL If this did not do it what would you suggest? Thanking you mucho in advance!
Edie and Barry thank you so much!
04-14-2006, 02:24 PM
Marge... that's exactly what I had in mind... perfection! All of your hard work has paid off. Take a bow.
04-14-2006, 02:44 PM
Thank you so much, Joel...You know without your input I never would have gotten to the end. I am really happy with the outcome of this. You take a bow with me!
04-14-2006, 03:44 PM
Bravo Marge! Terrific finale:clap:
04-14-2006, 03:45 PM
Marge if I'm going to do any bowing, it will be to you.
Here's my special dance to solute your achievement!:)
04-14-2006, 07:37 PM
