The month of March is not the most pleasant time of year around here. It’s grey and wet and chill with a constant battle between the flow of arctic air from the Canadian prairies and a southernly flow from the Gulf of Mexico. Soon the southwesterly air flow will take over and we will have spring with fresh growth and frequent tornado warnings.

Just started. Oil on canvas, 24" x 36".

Haha I saw the title and (being a band nerd) immediately thought you were going to have a painting of a parade! I think its wonderful, though. You must be from the Western part of the state? There's more bluffs on my side than show up in your picture, but then I'm from right along the river. I'd love to see a bigger version of this, too bad they limit the size of images to be posted. It says "Welcome to springtime in Iowa, wear your winter coat and bring your swimming stuff!" :D

A little more work of this thing. It feels a little strange today since winter is clearly over. Spring came Friday and Saturday (temperature in the low 80s) and 2 ˝ inches of rain since noon and still raining. My home town was ripped up by a tornado this week – a sure sign of spring around here. The house yards, pastures and hay field are all an incredible green today – almost neon green against the greys and umbers and raw sienna of the stubble fields.

I think (hope) this puppy’s done. I’ll stick it up in Landscapes for the customary barrage of brick-bats and dead cats.
