Silverpoint on paper
4" x 5"

My first effort with my new silverpoint tool! I'm in love, I think I've found a new favorite medium. Can't wait to see what it looks like as it ages...I wonder how long it takes before color changes become noticeable? As of right now, on the paper it looks like a hard, pale graphite.

This started out as a sketch of a '40's (? or '50's? Not sure) actress, last name of Todd, can't seem to remember her first name but her Hollywood nickname was "Hot Toddy." I've seen a lot of her the last few days, as AMC was having a classic horror marathon, and I thought her features were interesting. This doesn't really look like her though! :P Due to the permanence of silverpoint - no erasing http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/frown.gif - the proportions of the facial features aren't quite right. Namely, the mouth is too big...but I like the way it came out regardless. This face is actually a little more attractive. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Comments, advice, critique all welcome.

Don't know much about Silver point.
I think you've done very well with this first try though.

I just got re-interested in silver point a little while ago, so I am so glad to see your drawing. I was drawing on gessoed hot pressed illustration board, but I'm switching to hot pressed wc paper(its more politically correct http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif, and adding gold point eventually. I love silver point its so elegant. It has a look to it that is subtle and different than pencil. If you have more of your work, you should post it. Silver point is one of those forgotten mediums that need more attention.
