View Full Version : Hot Rods at Diner

Maria's watercolor of the wheel of the hot rod reminded me I had done this image a while ago. The cars are from the Michigan Woodward Dream Cruise and the Diner is a closed diner image off M-100, near Grand Ledge MI.

 Wonderful, Kirk! What a sky! ...and that red glow from inside creates a great atmosphere.

Thank you Kirsten! The red glow in the window is supposed to be an old "EAT" neon sign! It was meant to be indistinct, though.
BTW folks this is a photo manip of 4 different photos and painted shadows for the cars all treated to a mild buZZ filtering. A reall fun composition to make from the multiple different pics!

Not moved by the iron, but I would love to have the build to paint, as I've done several Bar/Resteraunt, things.
Liked your manip, specially how you used color to enhace details:)

hi omniartz.... thats good, interesting work u got there. for a practice work, its nice. but if u are really going for a real real good ph.manic then uve to take care of a lot of things/elements. just thought to share what i know, which i think might be of some help if u are going to persue manips.
so my pure friendly suggestion are:
. time and light: an important thing to take care of. here, the cars are recieving some bright light as compared to the light/color of the sky. coz i see no other light hitting them. they dont blend in the scene.
. shadows of the car must be defined well.
.lighting is quite flat, all over, including on the cars.
.the color of the sky is not effecting anything.
.DINER's light is not throwing any light anywhere.
.sky's color is too bright/intense and flat.
.get rid of the light line, on the right top part/roof of the building.
.a bit of proportion issue is there with the cars.
i think uve done quite well, just a bit of care is needed, to make things blend with eachother and become part of the whole scene. the most impotant thing in manips is not to have anything that looks out of place.
i written all this cause i like your scene, i just wanted to give u some points that i know, that i think might help u with your future work...:). take it as suggestions from a friend...:).
all the very best...

Those are excellent points to have in mind when combining elements from different photos. Thanks, Waheed!
