Thanks all : ) how did I post the pic so big?I have them set at the size I wanted them then hosted them at that size hehe, is there a particular size they need too be? I hope im not breaking the law hehe :P

the originals were painted at 300 rez, so this size there at now is WAY SMALL LOL ; )

Excellent Grant! The trouble with viewing these on a computer screen, is that they don't look much different to a photo, because they're sort of photo size. I think they would be stunning on a wall
(The maximum size for posting is supposed to be 500pixels wide, and I always find mine automatically adjusted to that if I forget! You have friends in high places! :) )

Elvira
03-15-2006, 08:09 AM
But does the maximum size apply to link back images, I thought that was for those loaded to the WC server.

Grant,

I think I'll just unplug my computer and give up! These are just stunning pieces! I was hoping your still life was cloned from the photo, but your WIP shows it all. Awesome talent!

Skinny
03-17-2006, 10:24 AM
Great work! :p Some of us will just have to hope that you "rub off".

Elvira
03-17-2006, 10:43 AM
The technical skill in the still life is fantastic, but as a fine artist not a graphic one I see no reason to create photo realism as a photo is quicker and just as cold, even magic realism goes beyond what the camera sees and makes a greater statement, I say this mainly to encourage those who don't work and see as the camera sees.

In the other images you actually see more talent particularly the nude as there is interpretation of the figure by the artist rather than just a recording of what is there. It takes great skill to be a copiest and there is a place for that but please don't be discouraged if your way of working is more interpertative and intutive.

I have watched as people have stopped doing what they love in the arts ever since TV came on the scene as a girl people in our community would do very creative and wonderful things to entertain each other, now unless they can do it just like the stars on TV they won't even try, and I see this in the world of picture making too, where even little kids who should have their own visual language, that is quite universal world wide, no longer able to interpert their world in pictures.

I must quit as I have to get ready for work, but just because someone can technically reproduce images as real as a photo doesn't negate the value of other ways of creating a picture. We each have our own visual language so please continue to use it.
Edie

PS. Even though I have a BFA, for sometime in my life I put away my brushes because, I was intimidated by the Graphic arts way of expression, I'm only so glad that in my senior years I have found my way back to my own voice.

I am not sure whether I should just "Faint Now", or trust the fact I can still pick my jaw up off the floor and be ok.

WOW! I am assuming "PS" means you use photoshop. Are these done from scratch? Please don't be offended by my questions. I am somewhat new to digital art and software.

This is awesome work!

TERRIFIC work, Grant? Did you consider "turning on" the light bulb?

Grant Cross
03-21-2006, 06:41 AM
Thanks Skinny, I did but I thought it would be cooler if the light was turned off, The lights are off and nobody's home hehe

well the meaning behind it is umm I thought it would be a cool idea heheh, so I made a still life arrangement with this skull and then I got a light bulb twisted some wire around the metal part of the bulb and pinned it to the black back board above his head so it looked like its floating hehhe, the way I came up with the idea was one of my light bulbs EXPLOITED! when I screwed it in my light table lamp WEIRD! so I got another bulb and I looked at the skull and thought hmmmmm that might look cool if the bulb was above his head like he just got an idea hehhe, the light bulb isn't on neither is he hes dead, but he still has an idea heh go figure ; )

I used an anatomy skull I have
