This is the perfect forum for them. I love seeing new and different ways of using the medium. Very nice!

In particular, I like the bird.

You calligraphy buffs might like to vote in this poll: http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=327288 Perhaps we'll have a calligraphy forum if there's enough interest!

the one on the left is "Al - hamdulilah" which means (thanks to Allah) and muslims say it after having a meal, or just after seeing or feeling anything which pleases them, and the one on the right says "bismillah", which means "i begin or start with the name of Allah" which muslims say before anything we do.

Thank you for sharing that- I was curious!

Oh, and I voted for a calligraphy forum. I am all for as much art as possible, and this is a lost art, practically. Its good to see some- show us more!

These are really wonderful. I hope you'll post more!

Calligraphy is one of many things on my list of things to learn. :) I'm fascinated by illuminated texts. So add my vote for a new forum!

I do have a question about "bismillah", I hope you won't mind answering about the bird form. Is representing the word/prayer as part of a bird a traditional motif or is it a creation from your imagination? I love the idea of the wings carrying the prayer and intentions of both the artist and the viewer.

Thank you for sharing!

many calligraphists write prayers in the form of a bird(although animal forms are discouraged, but are tolerated), u will find many examples around,(i was inspired by the works our teacher showed us before we started our own work) im not a professional artist(i do all this so i can maybe apply the skills i learn from art to my architecture projects in future), im still learning about different forms of art (including painting and sculpture) in different mediums, i love to work with anything i can get my hands on.

thank u all for showing so much interest, here is more of my calligraphy, it was done for the same class project as the two i have already posted. ill post more of my work in drawing and sketching soon (not calligraphy) and in other forums.

This is a fascinating subject. I am working on something that uses some calligraphy, not just in Arabic, but Hebrew, Hindi and Tibetan also. I'd vote for a forum!

This is really interesting to see -- I've done calligraphy forever, but usually in medieval style, so seeing it in a more current context is really interesting. Thanks for showing us.

calligraphy in all languages is fascinating, and the various different styles, using free brush strokes with ink (chinese characters ) or by using geometric shapes and straight lines

These are beautiful, but what do the last ones say?

These are beautiful, but what do the last ones say?

the first one is the kalima (it is the first thing a muslim has to recite to enter the faith) the third one says Allah is the Greatest(Allah-o-Akbar), and the other two are verses from the Koran(arabic is not my native tongue, so i would have to find a translation of the Koran to see what they mean before i quote, i dont have a translation now, sorry).

i love chinese calligraphy although i dont understand what is written, i just love the strokes and shapes, even in Arabic we can find examples where the artist has only taken some alphaphets from the script and arranged them in an interesting composition and they dont mean anything. my purpose here is not to promote the teachings of these verses(some people might think im trying to preach, that is not my intention), i just wanted to share my work.

I don't think you're preaching. You're putting your work in context. A friend's father (also an artist) grew fascinated with the I Ching. He created a series of watercolors based on the characters & incorporating the major symbols attached to each one. They were interesting & sorta cool just as art. But they became *amazing* after he explained why each thing was in the painting and what it meant. This is the same situation.

I'm really glad you posted more of your work. :)

What else are you working on?
