Hi there! I will acess internet less sometime soon and I thought I would share a still life I worked out yesterday and today. Unfortunally as some of you know is very difficult to handle wet into wet for me. But this time I used a medium texture stretched canvas which made it easy to work. I need to get some fabric, these one is just too light. I think the problem is I love flemish still lifes too much, that is very dark backgrounds. Problem with working in one sitting is that I cant see the tone in color properly and I ended up having things looking a bit flat. I miss especially shadows tones so easily, though I always start at them but them seem to disappear as I keep blending.

A pic of my setup and a tonal sketch drawing I worked into yesterday about 2 hours:

Oil sketch from life aswell about 4 hours into it.

Thanks for looking. :)

PS: After uploading I could see some problems with the pic like ... it isnt so bluish at all. Actually it is a greysh blue and highlights is a pale yellow. Also the apple behind the plum has some red orange in the light areas that doesnt show in the pic. The plum is really orange, I have lost the reddish tones there. Hope I can get a better pic tomorrow. Thanks again. :)

Rose,

That fruit is coming along. I like the ones where you've added the highlights. That apple on the far right is wonderful.

Hi Larry thanks. I hope so too. Would be hard to be way for so long.

Thanks Wayne and Brian for looking.

I consider this one just a color study. Though I am still not sure if the colors did worked well together. Anyway, I intend to transfer my drawing again to a new canvas same size and work in mono using the tonal sketch as reference and then working on top of it with my color study. It is an experience I wanna do. I think what I am calling a color study and the tonal sketching practice will give me a good practice from life and then I can develop the ideia from there on the studio as indirectly I can do a much better painting.

I am still not sure with the colors. How do you feel about it, is there any criticism just tell me I will appreciate it.

Rose, I'm going to miss you! Hope you can get back to us soon.

I'm glad that you moved the composition down after doing the tonal sketch. Much better!

Everything is clear. The color is good, and the highlights well placed. My only suggestion would be to darken the values on the shaded side of the fruit to mold it better in space, and deepen the cast shadows a little bit.
