View Full Version : ACEO Exhibition in Australia

02-09-2006, 10:55 AM
I think everyone knows that I'm included in the Ellenbrook Exhibition this month. It will be our first in the new building, yay. 22nd Feb @ 6:30PM

Well they picked 2 paintings of mine plus asked me to do a series of Aceo.

I kept thinking, "How will I display them, they are so tiny"? I can't afford frames.

So I figured, instead of worrying about mounting them on the galleries wall, I thought that I would have them in an album so that people could browse through it.

I had an old Nokia 3 ringed binder, so that wouldn't do. BUT Yes, it would do the job. So I grabbed some calico, doubled it and cut it to fit, it's like a slip cover over the binder.
And because the aceo fits into a trading card pocket and the album sleeves are pockets, I then stitched a patch pocket onto the front and cut some more calico and gessoed them and did 3 quick paintings on them and stitched them into the pocket. I called my album, "Art In A Pocket".
The album isn't a fancy frilly thing, I frayed the edges and splashed paint and shellack on it and put buttons on the pocket. There are threads hanging off it from all the raw edges. I went out and baught 4, 3 ringed binder sleeves.
This is the scanned pic, so it dosn't show it all.

Full size:
Page 1. Flowers:
Page 2. Cats
Page 3. Masters (2 cats to replace the two cats sold)
Page 4. MISC
then 2 extra to make the 36.
38 Cards in 9 days.

Congratulation on your up coming show!!!

Your album looks delightful!

I'm sure people (read:buyers:wink2: ) will have a wonderful time flipping pages and thinking about how they could use different pieces.

Best of luck to you...

Thankyou Aard, I appreciate your looking and commenting.
I know that a lot of people will be seeing "ACEO" for the first time.

Oh my gosh Teanne, those are BEAUTIFUL!!!! I especially like the kitties.:cat:

I can see this fueling the collecting bug.... people like to collect things, and I don't think a lot of people yet know that art can be collectable!!! I know I would have a lot of fun flipping through your album.

WOW, great initiative TeAnne -- everything looks great. Wish I could skip across the border and see it IRL :crying: :D I hope it creates LOTS of interest in ACEOs for you and for Australia in general.

One question that has been bugging me like mad for ages. Where on earth do you get the pages for the ACEO cards like you have? I'm darned if I can find them anywhere is Australia, and I am getting desperate. It doesn't help that I live in a country town of course, but if I could order them from somewhere, or buy online, I'd be SOOOOOOOOOO happy.
Hope you can help.

Val.

Thanks Kiwi, the quirky kitties have been popular, so I thought I had better paint some :D

Val, thanks. The sleeves I got from a scrap booking place here. When I pick them up and was deciding how many I wanted, the store owner came up to me and said "They are for ATCs"
"I said, yes, they are also for ACEO too"
She looked at me really weird, so I explained to her what ACEO was and mentioned that ACT people jump up and down and bla bla. She was amazed that the movement existed, so I told her to look at EROO and the bay where she would see hundreds and thousands. She then agreed, art should be for sale to all collectors.
I hope she comes to the exhibition :D

Anyway Val, If you want me to get you some, I can get them for 90 cents each here.

Oh WOW Te, this album looks FANTASTIC and your ACEO's are unreal!!!

Will you be selling them at the exhibition or is it just display (thinking that if you are selling you better get your packaging and info prepared coz these babies will walk out the door for sure!

What scrapbooking place did you get them from and is it a common thing most of them will have (I think the closest scrap booking shop to me is in Maddington).

I keep meaning to ask, what kind of things should I say about aceo in an artist statement/intro in the book.?

All you lookers out there, some input would be great thanks?

Would someone please be nice to me and answer me. Or should I just take it of the aceo page?

Hi TeAnne,

I'm not really sure what you should say, but I guess starting with what ACEO stands for is a good way to go. Then you could explain that they are a great way to collect a number of artist's Original Artworks at an affordable price. And that the collection can be framed, or displayed in an Album, thus making it a wonderfully fascinating hobby which doesn't take a lot of space. Possibly mention that a very large variety of excellent cards, handpainted by some of the world's best artists, are available on ebay.
I don't know how long your statement/intro has to be, but maybe these points could be built on.

I hope this helps TeAnne.

Yes, thank you Val. Do I have to mention ebay? I would rather mention Eroo as it is Australian. :D

Nah, this is great thanks Val. I'm feeling a bit brain dead on the left side.

3 more sleeps, I'm getting excited :D

Wow Te, I missed all the news :)

Congratulations on the show, it's the same one you went in last year, right? Good luck - I hope everything sells for you!

Don't mention ebay, ebay sucks! :) I'm sure that Eroo would love any publicity you can give them - as would the art-card.org site! ;)

Hi Eliza, thanks :)
Yes to both, Eroo and Art cards.

Brand new Gallery instead of the crappy old supermarket.

02-19-2006, 06:20 AM
Make sure you let us know how it went Te.

I wish you could come Michelle

Congrats TeAnne.
I must be living under a rock here. This morning finally decided to go find out what the heck ACEO stood for and just what is this about.
Wow. ended up googling it and have been browsing though stuff for hours. Ended up right back here from another link - ha ha full circle.
I was getting really excited about doing some too - but then looks like they are mostly sold or traded on e-bay!!! I'm so low tech, can't seem to figure out e-bay plus I have some unwarranted fear of it.

One more sleep, yay, it's tomorrow night. :)
sks, I don't sell on ebay anymore, I sell on Eroo. I have sold quite a bit there and still have bids. It's an aussie site and we have quite a few international members. It is quite safe.

There is a link in my signature if you would like to have a look at my auctions. :)
