I stole this picture, it's pretty famous of Ghandi, but I liked the challenge of the shadows and the old flesh, done with my second favorite sketching tool, a #2 pencil.
Just because no one understands you doesn't mean you're an artist.

Oh Jnet, this is your best yet! It's more a painting! I love it. I can *see* the lush rich wet painterly strokes!
Girl, you're a very expressive artist.

This is actually in a hard-bound blank book (10 x 12). I called the book "Portraits" and hence every pair of pages has a single portrait on it, plus the person's name, the day, the place, etc ...
I decided that my sketchbook would actually be a work of art in itself, and a lovely coffeetable book to boot. So every piece is a finished drawing, but it is also where I get my sketching practice in. Most of the portraits are done from life and not from photos (as in ghandi), I probably have 12 in all, got about 50 to go ;-).

jnet11 - I like this study..lots of variation all the way around, in your lights, darks, and line. I like the good old #2 pencils myself. Have you framed this one?
Would be nice to mat and frame this piece, don't you think?
