Three little sketches, all were done with graphite pencil. The sketch of the girl sitting on a bench is a quick expressive line drawing..more of a compositional study.

Sketch below is about 4 1/2" X 5"

It's beautiful. The girl on the first sketch... I want a date right now! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif
I like the second one too, but what's wrong with her eyes ?

Michael,
Lovely sketches! Your understanding of the proportions of the human body is evident in all your sketches. If you don't mind me asking, what training have you had?
I like the dog too - looks a bit like mine!
Do you draw animals much?

Mayet Ankh - Thank you for your notes. Training, I started to take a few art courses at Fullerton City College, in California.Life-drawing (quite a few classes) portrait painting in both pastels and oils. One of my FAVORITE classes while in jr. college was expressive drawing. The instructor, Maricano Martinez, has had articles in "Artist's Magazine". I also had one watercolor class by a very accomplished watercolorist, Don Hendrix (hope I have the last name spelled correctly). I guess my favorite classes ALL involved the figure.
At Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA.) I had a number of very good instructors, my favorite class there was classical figure drawing, with Harry Carmean. (Very well known..has published great drawing books!)
Beyond this..I just love drawing, something about pencils...and the "feel" of making the marks on paper. Mayet Ankh..I was a late-starter...didn't really have fun with art until I started feeling some confidence.
I very seldom draw animals. I did not graduate from Art Center..just two terms, decided I just needed to make time to work at it on my own. I did have a solo show of figure drawing the semester I graduated from FCC. Richard Egan (life-drawing and painting instructor) offered to present my work.
Used to draw cartoons on my book-covers in high school..only one art class in high school, and we did silk-screening for posters for our dances and high school plays.
Mayet Ankh, how about you? You draw very well, have you had much instruction?? http://www.krweb.com/pages/mike/index.shtml

Gerak..I (think) I was indicating a monocle in the third drawing. WindDncer..you are right..I just thought it made her face more interesting. Sometimes, things just....(show up). Unplanned at times. I see the drawing is dated March-91..I remember that I wanted the girl sitting in a curved, stone courtyard, but that is all I remember.

Cindy..isn't it great when we sell our work!! lol, Know what that means for me...(you guessed it!), we can BUY other artist's work!
You are on the top of my list...(when you are ready to sell ok!!).
I will email you a figure, but since the drawing is only about 6 1/4" X 8 1/2" (from pencil line border to border, I just re-measured it)..price won't be much. I am surprized though, that this piece (in '91) seems to have a lot of those "things" that interest me..than I can't put into words..(but maybe you know that already..??).
Thank you Cindy..very much.
And, will you PLEASE!!!! (when you are ready) email me some figures for any of your pieces..(I do have a number of favorites).
Another congratulations on making your gallery connection..I have this FEELING about you...your work will DEFINITELY find buyers!$$$$$ (You have one right here!!) http://www.krweb.com/pages/mike/index.shtml

Michael,
Thanks for supplying the info on your past training. Some of those courses sound great - like the expressive drawing one.
I have been drawing since about age 5 - can't remember what I did before that. Topped the High School in art in my last year. Always drawing, sketching in my teens then Married in early twenties and virtually came to a stop with drawing when I had 3 children. After they grew up and some left home I joined an art society and started lessons once a week. Watercolour/watercolour pencil/pastel and a little drawing tuition. I joined the classes with a view to learning other stuff besides the lead pencil and drawing but I find I am doing more and more of it lately and I have freed up a bit - it really is my favorite thing. I also prefer to draw the human figure although I have not used a live model apart from family members. I go through stages of jumping from one medium to another and different subjects all the time - landscapes, animals, florals, people. When I do this I end up very unsettled and can't seem to produce anything worthwhile. But I can always seem to pick up a pencil and do some kind of a drawing that satisfies me that I 'still have it'.
