Have been wanting to do a painting based on a couple embracing. I'll often do quite a few sketches/drawings until I complete something that works. In this case I still have not found it!! The figures are STILL not loose enough. Accuracy of anatomy is not important here..I am going for UNconventional figures here..parts of a gesture. I will continue with more rough drawings..these two are not much different from each other..I seem to have over emphasized the jaw in the figure on the left..corrected this somewhat in the second study. These are still both WAY too literal..I am hoping to alter the figures even more before I get to something that might work for a painting. It is funny, I get glimpses of what the painting would look like, (in my mind-in paint), but I seem to have to move through a number of sketches before I can get "beyond" some academic rendering. I am hoping that the oil version will break away from a lot of the academic influence. http://www.wetcanvas.com/Critiques/User/thekiss1.jpg

Same theme..oil study on canvas panel (unfinished) 16"X20" http://www.wetcanvas.com/Critiques/User/embrace3.jpg

I really like this piece Michael! Will you do an oil based on it?

Good morning (((Cindy))) - I would like to do a painting based on this THEME. (As you did) either the embrace or the kiss. I will try to get as loose as I can with paint, but I have a feeling the painting will NOT look like either of these drawings. The image I see in my mind does not agree with either of these drawings. Drawing is precise in a way I DON'T want my paintings to be (make sense?)..I will TRY to paint without doing a drawing on the canvas..just look at my reference..and put down my feelings in paint.
Arcitect..is aware that this transition is a real challenge for me..I might need to stop drawing and just work in oil. Will see what happens this week. btw, my portrait commission will be realistic, and sent some sketches to the gal already. (Always feel like I'm working from at least two directions!!) lol Hope to catch you in the Cafe this week Cindy. Michael
