I had to go put on a sweater to work on this one.
This is all digital, I'm just too lazy these days to pull out the paints, and my colored pencils are in my car!! About an hour in photoshop.http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/21-Jan-2006/42008-very-cold-morningopt.jpg

It's a wonderful start Elaine. Can see the colors and shapes beginning to build. Will definitely check back. Brrrr- looks too cold!

It's very nice! Did you draw this from scratch or did you alter the photo?:)

You have some nice effects in this piece. It looks more like it was done with watercolor than with photoshop.

Elaine,

So much for getting to bed early.....:p

It indeed looks VERY CHILLY there and I think you'll need more than a sweater. I can't wait to see how this is done.

For those who are interested I get to go to Elaines today   and see how she makes these magical digital paintings.......WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! I'll take notes and pass 'em on to those who need to know ((maybe that's just me!))

Thanks everyone for stopping to see and leaving the lovely compliments. I decided this morning to go in and push the color a bit and work on the trees some more.

I'm still not sure I'm crazy about the trees, but yes they are all completely hand drawn. I had the photo, really small on my screen and simply used it as inspiration. Funny how everything I do turns out looking like a watercolor. I wanted so badly in high school to be one of those kids who did well in art, and I remember it was probably 1971 when I finished an watercolor assignment and the art teacher said, "wow, I think we finally found something that Elaine is good at" I wasn't sure how to take that, but I've been painting in that style for years, and it doesn't seem to matter whether it's digital, colored pencils, or what, I want to water things down and make it soft and layered.
I know I've said this before, but the thing I like about digital is that I can apply layer after layer of low opacity "washes" and keep a fresh look, and if I don't like it, I hit delete and don't waste expensive art supplies!

Funny thing I just noticed, because I didn't give the file a new name, it copied over my first version, and I don't have the first on my computer anymore either, so you can't compare the two, sorry about that, I'll try to remember to rename in the future.

Great Job on this. I have made the same mistake about not renaming before it really hurts a WIP thread. Oh Well I have learned my lesson too. BTW the comment I made about it looking like a watercolor was meant to be a compliment. Although it sounds easy I have worked in photoshop for years and to achieve that look is not as easy as it sounds.
Great job on this.

Don't worry, Sam, I did take your comment as a compliment. I always find it amusing that people say watercolor is so hard, (using traditional watercolor) it's always been natural for me, and the fact that it creeps into every media I paint in, including digital, I find interesting. there have been polls on WC where people say they if you really know digital, you can tell it's digital, but I don't necessarily agree. When I print my digitals to watercolor paper, it's hard to tell.

Beautiful Elaine, I love your watercolour look.

About what the teacher said! take it as a compliment, don't look a gift horse in the mouth :D You should see one or two of my digital paintings, they are nothing like as delicate as yours. I very rarely use digital for painting now though, bad for my hand.

Really lovely painting! For some reason it doesn't really look all that cold to me. lol Kind of soft and inviting instead. Maybe because the winter here has lots of cold harsh days!
