MY COMMENTS:
This piece is NOT finished. I am a high school student and need some advice on this painting i am working on. The deadline is sort of soon. here ar etwo women doing laudry. The girl in red is supposed to be the most dominant one so i painted her red. im not sure if the red is right. would there be another color that would go better with this painting? originaly(from my source) BOTH girls dresses are beige/neutral color but i wanted the one to stand out. Is the red ok? keep in mind..i will add detail/shading to the dresess

MY QUESTIONS FOR THE GROUP:
should the red dress's color be completely changed?

Stick with the red! Love the idea, lifes little moments are sometimes the best to paint. Here is something you may want to try though, add something of interest to the wall on the right, such as a garbage can. Your painting is cut in half by the wall, hurting the composition. Do post the finished piece please:)

I agree with Matthew --- I played with this a bit in PS so you would have an idea of what happens when you change the wall -

the only thing that gets me,
I would prefer to see the floor blur into the background.
It would creat a better plein for the figures.
Nicely rendered. I like the feel of the arm holding the basket.
the basket is beautiful too.

spyderbabe, thakns for changing my wall...so i could just leave it purple and put a trash can there or something...maybe another laundry basket. or it might be better to change the whole wall! is this what you suggest? i think so

This is nice, I have spent my share of time in the public laundry and think you captured the feel. The only thing that is somewhat of a visual puzzle is that the lady in reds forearm is positioned in such a way that it looks like the upper arm of the lady next to her, and the lady next to her, it looks like her forearm belongs to the lady in red. From your reference material I can see how tricky the arm arrangement is...
