Here are a couple sketches for the "Pirates and Parrots" project. I do quite a few of these sketches..before I find something I like. (Will be doing a painting..when that happens). Red, blue, and graphite pencil...and a "touch" of ball-point pen..on Strathmore Sketch Pad paper. (cheap, and it works!) I also used to LOVE to draw on newsprint!!! Hi Amanda! Have not decided on a final sketch for a painting. STILL sketching. I will try to do a brief color/value study on a small canvas board, once I have the sketch/drawing that I like..and will post it in the "in-progress" Pirates & Parrots area.
henrik, if you see this post..I had two emails returned (when I tried to send them to you)...is the email under the P&P projects area working??, and do we send "in-progress" studies to you or to Rod for this project? Not sure why they came back..can you just let me know here regarding this. thank you henrik. Michael henrik...miss you in chat.

I really love the second one, but then, my house has become a haven for parrots with a bad attitude! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/wink.gif

Great sketches Michael. I like #1 the best.
I love newsprint too! Great stuff. Although it does eat up the ink and pastel! Love it for vine charcoal though.

Hi and WELCOME ladym! Always happy to see new members, and yes, I think you'll find a wonderful and supportive group of people here. I will look for you in the Cafe, and will be looking for your artwork to appear here before long also. Michael

Ched...as I mentioned, I found acid-free newsprint in our local art store. I am not sure what the advantage is..except that it may not yellow (?)milt, and it may hold up a bit longer that the old stuff.
It IS!! great to draw on..not sure how well it works with ink, I primarily use it for drawing mediums, pastel, pencil etc. Ched, hope you can find some.
