This is the latest step on this painting I am working on for a DVD production in which I will show the whole process from start to finish. Any comments are greatly appreciated. (You can view the work-in-progress so far at My Blog (http://jgarciaart.livejournal.com/2006/01/12/)

Okay, the bar has officially been raised... to the freakin' moon!

Janet, this is such an enchanting piece of work. Your style and technique here is on a level with the very best. I have witnessed the work in this forum steadily move to new heights, and your portrait will certainly enhance that curve.

u go gurl!:)

Janet your colours and application are beautiful, I've got it b/m and will be looking at it often :)

Well what else can I say. Terrific Janet! One tiny thing bothers me. And I hesitate to mention it since this is a wip. There are a couple marks on the bridge of her nose that just want to draw my attention.

01-13-2006, 02:28 PM
Sher, I saw that too, but I didn't mention it thinking that this is still a WIP.:)

01-13-2006, 03:00 PM
Wow guys! You are really quick!
...Yeah, I saw that too....you know... the nose thingy! LOL
What happened is that there are some eyelashes that are supposed to show up (she has big eyelashes) and I think that what it's making it look awkward is the small reddish spot on the nose, since it's 'kissing' the eyelashes.

I was going to diffuse this spot to see how it looks and it does not get mingled with the lashes.

Thanks for all the comments and critiques, and suggestions, and support and etc, etc.LOL

Sherry - I am glad you mentioned. That's what we are here for. Thanks.

Janet, an exceptional piece so far, and you still found time to help me! :)

01-13-2006, 03:36 PM
Thanks Barry.
It is a pleasure to be of some help.

Here is the 'nose job'!
Let me know if it's ok now, please, please.

The close up. Notice that you can still see the original gray paper. That's why I love so much conte and sanded paper, it gives the look of traditional conte, chalk and pastel.

Wow... this is gorgeous! It has such an old masters look.Very nice pose. Just wonderfull.

It's beautiful Janet. I like the conte texture and everything about it. But...those eyelashes still bother me. Personal preference I suppose but I think I would leave them out. The painting does n ot need them and they still seem to draw the eye too much.

Thanks Annie and Sherry,
Yeah, I was aware about the eyelashes and was working on it.
Tell me if this is much better. I also worked on the nose.

Janet those eyes are beautiful  they give so much expression to her face

01-13-2006, 09:46 PM

The thing I like best about this portrait is the way that you've interpreted the reflected light and colors. Those reds and oranges are eye-popping!
