I'm confused! I do not understand just what I am suposed to do after uploading my files and building the index etc. to make all that show up on the web page? Also I thought since I have a site at yahoo already why not just put in a forwarding link, but I just could not figure it out. Can anyone help me, please?

Hi there, Dave. You should post the URL to your site, so someone can take a peek for you. Likely, its an HTML issue.

Also - moving this over to the computers/tech forum. :) You might also want to poke around over there - or search for "artistnation" in that forum. I believe similar issues have been brought up before.

Cheers.
Scott

link to my spot in the file manager: http://www.artistnation.com/home-cgi/user_manage.cgi/english?account=davecarter|paris&session=7pXUnqzCpqRrZn1&dir=

Getting from here to actually "moving in" to the site is where I seem to be stuck....I'm no dought missing something basic and obvious, but what?

I tried to look at your file manager, however the link didn't work, it told me "No such account as davecarter, please make sure you spelled everything correctly and try logging in again." I think that anyone trying to view it would have to be logged in as you, in order to view the file manager for your site.

I am wondering, since when I view your website link, I get the message about the site being the future home of blah blah blah, if you need to rename your main page to index.html. See, when your browser searches for an address such as the one you posted, which only lists the directory(s), it automatically goes for the file "index.html" as the default front page of the website. Index.html is the page that I see when I click the link to your site. If this is your problem with moving in, then all you need to do is rename whatever page is going to be your front/main page to index.html.

If I'm totally wrong about the problem you're having, and it's something else, then post more detail and we'll go from there. BTW, I've never had a site on artistnation, but I've worked in many file managers and they all kinda work the same (with the exception to variation of rules on each server, that kind of thing).

Dave - to make images show up on a web page at AN (or most other such places), you need to use the IMG tag in HTML. Check the WebSchool Online section of AN for help. The info there is old, but the HTML stuff is still accurate, I believe).

Scott, Imagi, thanks for the tips. Strangely I had a dream last night about the image tag! I've studied html (went through the AN webschool and html Goodies tutorials) but html flows through my brain like water off a ducks back! I will of course keep at it as some small bytes might actually click in my head.

You might also look into something like Freeway (if you're on a Mac, that is) for creating your sites and using its built in FTP to upload and make changes to your sites. Very easy and you never have to look at code. Although you can go in and make the necessary aHTML addtions where you would like...
