OK, just signed up! Just checked out the reference photos and these are some kitties with attitudes (with a capital A) :cat:

I'm off on a business trip this week and skiing next weekend, but I'm off a week from this Monday so hopefully I'll have some time for drawing then.

I love the reference photos. I think I am going to nab the last two and see what I can do with them.

I'm in on this project...now I just have to find time to work on it, since i have two new comissions! Sounds like fun and I look forward to seeing what everyone does.

Well, I just signed up for the project, I did not realize I was supposed to draw or paint the cats :( . I thought I could just do photos. So, maybe you all can use my photos for reference since I am not an artist, just a photographer. I haven't uploaded any photos yet, have to scan them and make them the right size first. My snuggle picture is posted here in the submit photo section, page 4. I don't want to break any rules by attaching it again.

Nicolasa, "just" do some photos and it will be OK :D A photographer is an artist just like a painter or sculptor (at least I consider photography to be art as well as other mediums). There are no restricted mediums for this project, so if you have some good photos - go ahead and post them. We use photos as references but it does not mean we consider them to bo something worse than paintings or drawings. You can also attach photos to your posts - you won't breake any rule (I guess so - I'm relatively new to WetCanvas too :D

I am attaching my favorite picture here for the contest (again )

What kind of a cat is Isis?? She/he does not look like a house cat. I think I have seen that cat before on the Discovery channel?? Isn't it a fairly large (taller than a bobcat) wild cat?? If I remember right it is a real jumper, jumps really high to catch flying birds?

02-05-2002, 03:21 PM

Well, that's a start.

Two cats added to the project.

The first, a white cat on a white background. Easy, and difficult at the same time.

The second " tigger", one of our 'outside' cats. Touch me and I'll scratch you.

OK - about the second cat - this is what I call "ATTITUDE". :D I also like the way you suggest the white cat on white paper, although I think a few more details would also be good (probably some details were lost during scanning process - am I right ?)

Erm, actually no. I felt that this was one experiment where the cat's face could merge into a background which was of similar tone.

The images, by the way, were photographed - I have no scanner:(

I started workin' on my sketch - I try to do the basket first and leave the cat for later. It looks like I have a lot of work before me :p

Thanks for asking, Nicolasa,

Isis is indeed a housecat, she's an Abyssinian (although she looks kinda wild when she yawns and when she eats). Abyssinians are thought to descend from the cats of ancient Egypt where cats were first domesticated. That's why they keep their wild look even thought they're the friendliest cats around.

Here is my cat with attitude project try. I decided that since I signed up for this project I better give it a go, but I didn't have a lot of time. I took about 20 minutes on this quick pencil kitty in a bag...a bit of a different perspective!

Size is about as scanned.

Thanks for this fun project!

Here are a couple of shots I thought I would share, some old, some new. I couldn't get any 'action shots' today. Everyone around here is a slumber bunny. This is Powder.

this cats name is actually 'Bright Eyes', she was a very 'superior feline'. I was considered 'the help' responsible for food, litter box detail and doorwoman.

last one. this was a favorite sleeping place.

Cathy - I love your drawing - an unusual "point of view"
Maggie - "Bright Eyes" is my favourite:D She definetely looks like a very strong and proud personality - a boss type, so to say. Wonderful photo :)

PS: I've made a pastel drawing of a cat for the project but I have a massive problem with scanning it or making a photo of it. It is made on black paper and all colors become dull after scanning. Has anybody any idea how to "catch" my drawing ?

Hi Folks,
This is my contribution for this project. I do not know yet how does the project discussion is done. Is it necessary to post the picture here? Is it enough to post it in our final entries portfolio? I am just trying to post it from the uploader...
I would like your opinion about this little kittenhttp://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/11-Dec-2002/2gatinho.jpg

Couldn't resist sending this pic. My cat was 'missing' one evening and wasn't found until our visitor was leaving - wedged into the sleeve of his jacket, which he had tossed on the floor. :cat:
