View Full Version : FND 02/01 resist

I couldn't get the printer to work, which meant I had to work right at the computer, which meant no paint or dusty pastels. So I got out the oil pastels. The only other oil pastel I've done was last week's WC drawing event. Big, greasy sticks and not many colors...but might as well go for it. I covered it in India ink, then held it under the tap, as the pastel didn't resist it all that well.
Lots of perspective mistakes there too but I had fun.
Can't wait to see everybody else's

Keep seeing really nice things done with oil pastels, this is another.
I looks full of life and I like the lighting as well :)

a new term for my art vocabulary - "resist"

(are you going to tell me what it means, or do I have to go look it up?)

Great work, I think the oil pastels like you ;)

Since oil and water don't mix, the oil pastel is supposed to "resist" the water-based ink, and it's supposed to slide off the pastel and stay in the cracks and bits which don't have pastel on them. Which it didn't do in my case until I held it under the tap ,so it is more washed-out looking than it should be.

julsiebear, I'd send you a private message but you must have said no messages on your profile.
You can still participate afterward...I did last week, the next day (because I was at the airport seeing my daughter off when the drawing event was on!).
It's really fun to be a part of it.

Great colors. Your broad strokes give the buildings a lot of strength. I love the India Ink resist effect. Hmmmmmm, something else for me to try.......

The flag was annoying me no end, plus I noticed some of the shadows must have washed off under the tap.So I put 2 more minutes on it..still under the 2 hrs..and will now leave it alone(not an easy thing for me).
Thank you for all your kind comments. You are so encouraging!

I learn more and more-hadn't heard of that 'resist' thing before...

The colors in this are de-licious-I like the second touched up one even better-the shadows enhance the image...

Nice color effects. It reminds me of the South of France!

Hey, this is nice! You made it look more interesting than the reference... I think that's a sign of a good artist, to be able to take something and do so much more with it. Or maybe I'm rambling. What I mean to say is... This is VERY cool! :D
