OK, I gave her another chance.
We both agreed it was not the picture, it was her self image so we decided she wouldn't go for the portrait.
I snapped a couple of back shots and here are the steps and the finish:

lots of blue and violet and green. The gold of her hair and tanned skin were going to be my biggest areas.

I am not as thrilled with the simple shapes and big size as I may have been with a more interesting pose, but she was happy on the white bed with the red drape.

Hubbie will have something to tell the boys about.

Actually, I am sure the lack of real emotional involvement will suit her just fine.
I will post the highlights of her email.
(I think she will be happy this time because I included some digipix of her doomed kitty... ply them with pet pictures and you win them over...who knows! Maybe another comission!?!?!)

This is the strongest piece you have done yet! Good combination of composition, color and technique. I would stop and go on to the next piece! Bravo.

The only adjustment would be on the pillow. It is a bit too white and takes some attention from the figure. It may just be the digital picture and not as apparent in the actual painting.

I adjusted a scan, rather than a photo so this is a lot closer to true.

It is less cold than the photo and it has the toned blanket and the white pillow shows more naturally.
Thanks so much, your critique is much appreciated!
She is picking it up tomorrow.
onward and upward

I LOVE this piece.
I know in the Projects, there are the facilities to post progress pictures, but not many people do it, so it was lovely to see how you worked up to your final piece.
I think she got the piece very cheap !!
Great piece of work

Today - Im going to make someone smile !

Just a teeny update as I cleaned up my inbox and deleted my HELLO's from wc...
I took this image and printed a few notecards for her and charged the 8 for $15 throwing in one nicer, larger one on wedding announcement deckle snooty paper.
I really wonder what she will do with them...like who do we send nudies of ourselves to?
ANYHOW, the gift that keeps on giving is the note cards afterwards!
