View Full Version : Shipping - Shipping framed pastels

I have been thinking about entering some juried competitions; however, I have a question. If a person's art is accepted for the show, you have to ship it and they require that you only use plexiglass rather than regular glass. I have visions of my art bouncing along (most likely face down) with a nice coating of pastel on the plexiglass by the time it reaches the destination. Do any of you have experience with juried competitions and do you have framing and/or shipping suggestions?

Thank you,

Dee

Hi Dee,

Yes, this is always a dilema for the pastel painter. The best you can do is to be certain the loose pastel is shaken off prior to framing, use a good spacer, plexi for shows and a good backing to minimize pressing in the middle of the painting toward the glass.

Although I don't recommend this for permanent framing of paintings under glass, but for shows you could lightly spray the plexi that faces the painting with non-static spray before framing. This will help that "ghosting" effect that can sometimes occur, particularly in the winter months.
