View Full Version : citrus thinner help

Since I believe I have an allergy to the petroleum fumes or some other fumes in oil based oils and solvents, I want to try this citrus thinner I have been recently reading about. But I cannot find it anywhere! Cheap Joes. David Smith, Dick Blick, my local art supplier, Italian Store...to no avail.

Can anyone please tell me where it is available from and if you've had experience with it?

Thanks much

No experience with the matter but I think what you want is here:

Instead of getting something that doesn't act like a real solvent, try lavender oil of spike. (aka gasolin de aspic. )

It smells good and works very much like real terpentine.

Is that what they sell as an "essential oil?"
Otherwise where would I look for it?

no, it is an artist grade and refered to as oil of spike.

www.studioproducts.com sells some beautiful oil of spike. its a bit expensive, but well worth it. the paint just glides on.

also, about your citrus turp. i buy mine at a sculptor's supply, or you can buy it at an art supply store...have them order it, if they don't have it in stock...i recommend a larger quanity, as it is cheaper that way.

also, check hardware stores for it, it is the citrus industral cleaner...

i'm sure you can find it...when i lived in germany, i would have my supply store special order it for me. so i'm sure in MA, you'll be able to locate it.

i love the stuff.

I'm curious now. I like the idea of something that smells good.
On the oil of spike...it makes the paint lean, correct?

Thanks, Jason, but I am in the US! I will look for it here though, or it's US brand.
