Hi
I was just wondering if people on this forum ever meetup locally, to chat about their art, visit galleries or museum, etc.

Check with the WC Member News & Events Calendar. http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=22

There have been a number of WC gatherings ( one recently at Pampe's in Montana.) Or you can list yourself in the events forum and see who lives near you!

Just checked the events calendar, and looks like someone else was looking for artists in Chicago, too. Hopefully we can get something going around here.

Rachel, the answer is "yes, if somebody coordinates one!" You can do a search on the WetCanvas member directory to find folks in your area, then contact them via PM or email to see if anybody's interested, then you have to just pick a place, a date and a time, and just do it! Not everyone will be able to make the date, but that will happen regardless of what date you pick and, if you find you're congenial, perhaps you can make it a regular thing and those who miss one date will make it to another.

Look out for events in your area that attract artists (like, we have a huge art methods and materials show in Pasadena every fall) and post information on it in the Events forum or the Cafe Guerbois forum. Ask if anyone attending would like to get together for drinks, dinner or a sketching outing.

How do you do a search in the directory?
thanks,

Rachel, it oesn't have to bea big organised event. I and Mairrca, who lives about an hour away, get together for coffee several times a year. Occasionally others join us but we always have a great time comparing notes.

Click the "Member Services" heading, above left, select "Member Directory," then on the resulting page, click the "Search Members" heading at the right-most column. A new window should open (if you just get a pull-down, tho, click "Advanced Search"). In that window are a number of search fields. Just fill in the one that you're searching on; in your case, you would type "Chicago" (without the quotes) in the "location" field. Don't fill in anything else; just scroll to the bottom and click "Search Now."

You should get a number of pages listing any member who put "Chicago" in the location field when s/he filled out the member profile. Many of the names that pop up won't have any posting history, but it might be worth contacting those who do have some posting history because they're the most likely to still be active members. Click on their usernames to get their profiles and then send them a private message or email from the profile. You can also add them to your buddy list from the profiles, which will allow you to send them all the same message at once.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to post here and I'll do my best to help out!

Members of the Watercolor forum are very active, meeting up at every opportunity, and organising painting weeks and weekends. See the sticky (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299220) at the top of the Watercolor Wash Cafe for the ones currently in the pipeline, and if you want a laugh see Kettelwell - S*x, Lies and Videotape (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296954)
