a fire out back with a bunch of pastels that I was not happy with... I do burn pastels once a year or so... this year was the nudes turn to be culled, making storage space and learning about weaker work, this nude was also sacrificed as it intered structural problems (it wrinckled in the frame)

ROFL! Oh, you mean burn the paintings! Nope, never done it, wouldn't do it. I just throw them in the trash.

You might be releasing hazardous chemicals into the atmosphere, Dan -- hope you aren't breathing it in.

Seriously, research has been done on breathing in pastel dust et al, but I've no idea what kind of chemical changes may take place with pigments when they are burned.

Is this a ritual of sorts? That's the impression I get and it actually sounds intriguing -- http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

nope!
I have not quite run out of room, but I find them in interesting places. I did a millenial house cleaning and found some of my nicer sketches among the reprints of movie schedules from yahoo!
I found lots of my very old stuff in my storage and, because all the stuff was so fresh from art school, I was keeping it for comparison.
I think my nudes are almost back...well, yeah, some of them, hands and feet etc, are much better now, but I think you and I are the only ones that can get to a studio!
I only have two years of mess to get through so far in this life, so I may think about it in another year....
by the way, WE only barbecue out here...no fires....desert you know!
