I am learning how to paint in pastels as well as water colors.

First attempt at Pastel? Pretty cool.
What kind of paper did you use,Im trying to see the texture of the pastel. Did you use it on its end all the time or did you cover some of the larger areas on its side.Maybe its the paper thats tricking me.
I Like the idea of the motif but if that is water at the bottom then your reflections go at the opposite direction to the object.ie If your tree is leaning at 1 o'clock then your reflection is at 5 o'clock and if the water is rippled it would be wiggly.

Nice first piece Chris.

Half the fun using patstel is discovering what it can do on the surface. You did a nice job of starting on a toned paper.
