Hi Guys
Well I've just had the most amazing week long workshop with Jacqueline Coates, Australian floral artist. I arrived back in town yesterday sooooo inspired and have so much more confidence in my ability. I'm concidering a series of works based on contrasts in light and hope to have the confidence to hold my first show within 6 months.

This is my first LARGE canvas at 40" x 40". Any C&Cs welcome ;)
Note that there is some glare in the top right corner, which in life is nearly as dark as the bottom left.

Not at the moment Valri. I had to leave the Canvas out of town as it was too big to to travel home with me. This photo was taken quickly on the run. I won't get the canvas home for a few weeks yet unfortunately but will re photogprah it properly when it arrives.

I see I got my lefts are rights mixed again. DUH! I've always been hopeless with that! A major brain fart. :D

Thanks to all for looking in and the kind comments.

Elaine: curious about the small brush for such a large painting. It does look impressive at that size though.

Your right, standing next to it does bring it all in perspective. Beautiful.

June Thanks for looking in.
"What did she teach you that changed your attitude so much?" ...She took me completely outside my comfort zone at each stage of the painting, stopping me each time I was getting too comfortable and having me work in a different manner. For example she would make me use much larger brushes when I would normaly use smaller. (I'm a detail freak at heart.) She'd get me to work the whole canvas and leave details till much later than I might otherwise work them in. And she talked privately and quite seriously with me about showing my work telling me I'm a natural and to get over my inhibitions.

Catkin Thanks for the comments. The paint brands were mostly 'Jo Sonja' with 'Golden Polymer acrylic medium' and the work was given an oil glaze using 'Archival -Lean- oderless oil paining & glazing medium'

Carol Yes the small brush was my friend. I'm used to using them over the larger ones but wasn't allowed to. All but the very last details were worked with much larger brushes. Right towards the end I was able to add in final details with the smaller one as in this pic below.

Thanks for looking in and the kind comments guys.
