and the adventure continues....
Ruthie and Thomas continued scaring the entire evening. They stopped to laugh and scream when they noticed a house burning in the distance, near her home. They decided to investigate.

The house that was burning was Ruthie's and she screamed in terror. "Thomas, my animals are in my topstory room! My cat, my snake, my spider and mockingbird!", Ruthie exclaimed.
Thomas swept her off her feet and ran quickly up the stairs, ahead of the flames. His giant pumpkin head seemed to grow larger with every step and by the time they reached her topstory room, his head almost filled it.

With his giant hands, Thomas swept most of Ruthie's furniture against the door and with a nod from Thomas, all the animals went to Ruthie.
"Your broomstick, Ruthie", said Thomas,"Please, don't be afraid. I must put you all in my head, otherwise you all might die". Smoke began to fill her room and flames flickered about.
"What about you?", Ruthie asked.
"What can a little ol' fire do to Thomas Pumpkinhead?", he said with a nod. He picked them up in his giant hand and placed them in his giant head.

"Ruthie, I must close my eyes, nose and grin, so my light will go out. Please take a nap", said Thomas. After they were closed the animals began a calming song for Ruthie and she quickly fell asleep within the warm pumpkin.
Outside the flames engulfed the house and began to burn Thomas's vine-body that continued to grow and fight the great fire. The fire began to win and Thomas could feel his skin get hot. He closed his eyes, nose and grin even tighter and continued to grow to keep his friends alive.
