just three snaps of sally in progress:
the sketch, which in which she does shapes. After (and we are still running late, but one must work with a 3 value range in mind)a thumbnail, she blocks in the major shapes:

Then she lays an acrylic or watercolor gray using either complementary or supporting grays with a similar value. I see her range from like 8-5. The lightER areas are the light and the dark and middle areas stay up a bit. It just lays a tone to kill the white and suggest shapes. The sketch is pretty wiped out.

Then she lays in value as color. This is her start and then she hatches color over color trying to stay away from her lightest lights.
She also KEYS her darkest and lightest tones, the two dots on the head, so she subliminally keeps working to them.

That is it for today, tomorrow she will go farther. Here is my 1/2 picture. We are having a war over her foot.
(Imagine! Me disagreeing with someone? But I say it is foreshortened and will show when I do my shadows and she thinks it looks too short.... I WILL win, but I hope it looks as good as I see it... http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/eek.gif )
