View Full Version : First time at WC and with pastels

I am very new to WC. I love this site. There isn't enough time in a day for me to explore every aspect of it. Most of my work is in black and white pencil. I recently felt the urge to include some color in my artwork. This is my first attempt with pastels. I've never had any training, unless you include sophmore art in high school years ago. It's hard to work from dark to light when you've been doing it the other way around for so long. Anyway, I have a feeling I'll be here alot. The talent on this site is incredible.

Welcome to Wetcanvas Rowanart....it's great to have you here and already posting!!!

You have wonderful drawing skills....I have recently picked up pastels myself. They are very nice to work with...and portable. You did a wonderful job on the deer..with the forshortening of the body...and the positioning of him.

Since I am fairly new to pastels, I can't help you much more than what I have said....if you like it..just keep it up!! You are right...there are wonderful pastelists and artists here!! I'm sure you will get usefull feedback!!

Take care,
and welcome again,

This is a good comp. and colors. Just a few things.
Trees look like they're stuck in the antlers.
Round out the shoulders to the chest with a little of the yellow or even brown. Left back leg is too boxy also. What size? How long did it take you in working hours?
I'm a realist extreme detailed pastel artist, if you wanted to know. http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Good start tho! And yes the forshortening is very good. Should put this in Critiques forum if you want, to get more feedback. Practice, Practice! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

It's only ART...but I like IT!
