Something new. Just finished this for a local exhibit. The ref came from the RIL, a beautiful offering from Crias(thanks, Cathy).
11 x 14, assorted softies on velour paper. C&C always welcome!

Beautiful, Kate. Kingly indeed! As a Leo, I highly approve your choice of subject matter :).

Wow, Kate, what a beautiful painting. It looks so soft to be real - like I could reach out and feel that fur. Yikes! The eyes have it.

Do you work on velour much? I've done it and love it, but it is very unforgiving, so even more kudos to you!

LOL, Kim! Thanks for the comment. I'm a Virgo on the cusp of Leo. Aug 25

Kat, I learned pastels on velour, so was totally innocent as to it's unforgiveability. Hey, if it was good enough for Leslie Harrison, it was good enough for me. Practice made it work for me, and I really love it, as well as sueded mat board. Love Wallis paper, too! :D I think the different surfaces produce different results.

Wonderfully done. That greyish beige gives a sense of skin. The eyes are quite well, giving the necessary expression - afterall eyes are the main key for a portrait, I think.
I may get the book « Painting animals that touch the heart» for Christmas (already gave the hint ;-) ). I sure would like to try animals, but find them too hard.

Best regards,
