Hello Fellow Artists

This is the first time I have posted in this forum I usually post in Pastel Forum.

This painting is a change in subject matter from most of my artwork, though I feel it dose follow a theme of dramatic contrast shadowing into a dark or black background. 'Afterglow', I struggled for a long time for a title, fits in well with some of my recent work.

I enjoy working on black grounds and I'm always searching for images to portray. This image I adapted from a full colour photo and built up the light and shade to suit the background and the mood I wanted to achieve.

Pastel on Black Pastel Card, 11"x15"

Happy painting all

John, yes it's a dramatic and moody piece, and I imagine it looks even more so in real life.

Thank you all very much for your comments, feedback is excellent because it makes you look at your work with another eye and helps to get things into perspective.

That said it was back to the drawing board to add, I hope, a few improvements. Seeing the painting on the monitor also opens your eyes, you tend to look at your artwork through rose tinted glasses; particularly if it is a painting you have enjoyed doing.

I felt I needed more shadow and, more work on that arm and hand.

Happy painting

John
