 Working on a surprize gift for a coworker of his dog Sam (a white lab cross) and I am having difficulty bringing life to his eyes. All i got to work off of is a really fuzy digital picture printout. Any suggestion? And... How do you guys feel about the background? This is the first time I've painted a dog so I am looking for suggestions on improvement. Thanks!

Very nice work so far. Sam looks like a really sweet dog. I'm not sure about the eyes, but I think the background would work better if his head wasn't "floating." Continuing his body to the edges of the canvas would really help to anchor him in the picture and make the background look sort of like a photographer's backdrop, which could work well. You might also try cross-posting this in the Animals & Wildlife Art forum, since they would probably have excellent advice about the eyes. Good luck! :)
