View Full Version : Em's Pansy WIP

Thought I would put up what I have achieved so far. I think that I have finished putting the underpainting of purple down. I did the background as Em suggested doing this so that we wouldn't have finished flowers with no background. I kind of like how this turned out, sort of abstract and neat colors. I also did a couple of the petals while Em was watching to see if it would work using opera, Think it also turned out nicely. I am close to putting on opera over the entire pansies in various strengths, adding a few other colors possibly as I go along.

Arches 300#, 16" x 22", pretty big for me, that is why it is taking me so long (and I am sticking to that story)

C&C welcomed but be gentle

Judy, this looks great as it is!

I love the background. AND the Opera. I love the way the white forms interlock. I actually think you could stop here and it would make a great painting.

Judy: These colors are great. The rippling in the petals is excellent. Can't wait to see the finish.

Hi Judy... first... I'm just so darned jealous that you were able to paint with Em, and meet the gang in Montana... :(

Your painting is really looking good... that background is excellent... Don't you just love Opera??? I can't wait to see what you do next!

This is looking super,Judy. Your petals look really soft. I'm so glad you're planning to come over to England next year - Rob and I are looking forward to meeting you.

UPDATE. Have put opera pretty much all over with some blending. Now will let this dry thoroughly and try and figure out what I am going to do.

any suggestions?

Wow, it's looking gorgeous and the color is so vibrant. I was wondering about that white area above the throat? Are you leaving it white or adding some yellow to it?

09-29-2005, 12:28 AM
Well in the photo it looks white, think I need to work on that center, soften the edges a lot haven't figured that part out yet thanks for asking.

I think your pansy looks beautiful Judy..

I would if you really have to put a VERY LIGHT dab of c blue in the throat just to hint at a shadow..

You don't have to paint it exactly like the photo..;)

It's lovely, Judy. I've been fascinated, watching the process. Love the softness and life you've achieved in the petals. No suggestions - you're way ahead of me.:clap: Also envious of lessons with Emily:envy:

Pam I didn't ignore you just hadn't finished and wanted to feel like I had done the best that I could before I posted.

Well, I think I am finished unless someone sees more that I should do. I am a little afraid of doing too much more so I don't mess it up. Am fairly pleased with it but we always see things that we could have done better, guess that is why we move on to the next one and the next one.
