Overview
The Lake Norman Art League and Our Towns Habitat for Humanity are pleased to announce “Building Community: 2nd Annual Juried Art Exhibition”. Begun in 2004, this event brought together two diverse non-profit organizations, and provided a unique opportunity for charitable contributions in our community. All art accepted into the show will be for sale and forty percent commission is shared between the two organizations. In addition, all donations at the door will be mutually shared. We encourage all artists living in North Carolina and South Carolina to enter this celebrated exhibit.

First Place: $1000 and $250 Gift Certificate
Second Place: $500 and $250 Gift Certificate
Third Place: $250 and $150 Gift Certificate
Honorable Mention $100 and $100 Gift Certificate
All accepted artists will receive 2 tickets to the opening reception.

Juror
David J. Brown – Senior Curator SECCA (Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art).
Brown received a bachelor's of fine arts at Old Dominion University and a masters in fine arts from Virginia Commonwealth University. He is currently the Senior Curator and HOME House Project Director at the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art (SECCA), Winston Salem, N.C. Before joining the staff at SECCA in 1999, Brown was the Curator at the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati (1996-99), and the Director of Exhibitions at the Maryland Institute, College of Art, Baltimore, Md. (1989-96). Brown served on the Board of Directors at the Washington Project for the Arts in Washington, D.C. from 1985 to 1990. He organized, toured and served as curator for more than 60 exhibitions and community-based projects. MIT Press is currently distributing the book, The HOME House Project: the Future of Affordable Housing (2004) edited by David with essays by him, Michael Sorkin, Ben Nicholson, and Steve Badanes.

Eligibility
“Building Community: 2nd Annual Juried Art Exhibition” is open to artists 18 and over residing in North Carolina or South Carolina. All media except video and performance art may be considered however, the emphasis is on fine art and craft. Jurors’ decisions are final. Please carefully review the following general and specific criteria for all artwork entered into the show.

General Criteria for All Artwork Entered:
 All artwork must be for sale.
 All artwork must be the original creation of the submitting artist.
 All artwork must be “new” – not awarded in any previous juried event.
 All artwork must have been created on or more recently than January 1, 2004.
 All artwork accepted in the show must remain on exhibit for the duration of the exhibit period.
 No substitutions for pieces accepted into the show will be accepted.

Specific Criteria for Three-Dimensional Artwork:
 If hung:
 Must not exceed 60 inches in height or width.
 Must not exceed 8 inches in depth.
 Must not exceed 50 pounds.
 If sculptural in nature:
 Must not exceed 78 inches in height including any stand or 36 inches in diameter, including any pedestal or stand.
 Depending on piece artist may supply stand – please include in measurements.

Specific Criteria for Two-Dimensional Artwork:
 Must have wire securely attached to the piece for hanging.
 No sawtooth hangers will be accepted.
 No gallery clips will be accepted.
 May not exceed 72 inches in height or width including frame.
 Must not exceed 50 pounds.
 Work will not be hung by the stretcher bars
 No staples can be showing on canvases
 Paintings that are not completely dry will be disqualified
 Pastels must be framed with glass
 Watercolors should be framed with glass or plexi-glass

Sales
Proceeds from artwork sold during the course of the exhibit will be distributed as follows:
 Selling artist will receive 60% of sales price.
 Our Towns Habitat for Humanity will receive 20% of sales price.
 The Lake Norman Art League will retain 20% of sales price.

PLEASE NOTE: Payment of all applicable taxes on income received by the artists whose work is sold is the sole responsibility of those artists. Neither the Lake Norman Art League, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, the Juror, nor the exhibiting venue is responsible for the withholding or payment of taxes.”


Lake Norman Art League reserves the right to photograph any accepted work for publicity purposes and to install the accepted works in any manner deemed necessary for exhibition, safety or security reasons.

Submission Process
 All submissions are to be made electronically with digital photos via our website at www.LKNArt.org. It’s easy as 1-2-3 - there is also a step-by-step guide that is available online at our site.
 Payment for submission must be made before images may be uploaded.
 Payment methods are credit card – Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discovery or PayPal (you do not need a PayPal account to make payment)
 Upload File Name - please name your image files with your name initials and the title or a number (ex. Joanne Smith – JSharmony.jpg or JS2240.jpg)
 No special characters should be used in the file name except for _ (underscore)
 File format – JPEG/JPG, GIF
Total file size - each image must not exceed 1Megabyte (1000kb)
 Image size – not to exceed 600 pixels in either a vertical or horizontal dimension
 Image resolution between 72 and 180 pixel/inch
 A maximum of three distinct pieces may be entered.
 The non-refundable fee for entry is $30 for up to three pieces
 One image per two-dimensional piece may be uploaded, and two images per three-dimensional entry may be uploaded.
 All entrants are required to provide a working e-mail address.
 All notifications will be made via e-mail.
 Artists whose work is accepted will be required to provide a short bio in an electronic format provided to them.
 Entering by electronic submission constitutes your full agreement to the terms of this exhibition.


Delivery and Shipment
 Hand Delivery and Shipment - Artists whose work is accepted will be able to hand deliver work or ship their work to 20310 North Main St. Cornelius, NC 28031. See calendar for specific dates and times.
 Hand Delivered work should be protected with protective covering.
 Artists whose work is accepted and shipped are responsible for all costs relating to shipping and insurance of work in transit to and from the “Building Community – 2nd Annual Juried Art Exhibition.
 Artists shipping work should provide for a re-usable shipment container and pre-paid package pick-up.
 Works accepted for final inspection may be withheld from the exhibition at the juror’s discretion.
 The juror’s decision is final.

PLEASE NOTE: We are passionate about art and the artists who create it. As such, we will handle all artwork with the utmost care and respect. However, any insurance of work is the responsibility of the artist. Neither the Lake Norman Art League, Our Towns Habitat for Humanity, the Juror, nor the exhibiting venue will be responsible for insuring work. By entering the competition, artists agree not to hold these individuals and organizations responsible for any damage or loss of artwork.



Exhibition Date/Location
The exhibition will be on display from November 13 – December 16 at Dressler’s 8630 Lindholm Drive Birkdale Village, Huntersville, NC. In addition to regular business hours 5pm – 10pm daily, special viewing hours for the general public will be made each Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 – 4:00pm until the exhibit closes. Volunteers will staff the openings.

An opening reception will be held on November 13 from 1pm – 3pm. Complementary hors d'oeuvres and Champaign will be served. A donation of $25 is requested at the door or with advanced reservations and will be shared between the Lake Norman Art League and Our Town’s Habitat for Humanity. Artists accepted into the show will receive two complementary tickets for admission.


Calendar
Sept 1 - Oct 15 The website www.LKNArt.org will be open for electronic submissions starting September 1st. All entries due by midnight October 15th.

October 22-24 Electronic notification of acceptance. Notification will be by the Email address entered on the entry form.

Nov 7 - 11 Shipment of work to 20310 North Main Street Cornelius, NC 28031 must arrive no sooner than November 7th, and no later than November 11th.

Nov 9 -10 Hand delivered work. Hand-delivered submissions will be accepted only between 10 AM & 2 PM at 20310 North Main Street Cornelius, NC 28031, and should be wrapped in protective covering.
OR
Nov 12 8:30-9:30 Hand delivered work can be brought directly to Dresslers 8630 Lindholm Drive Huntersville at Birkdale Village between 8:30 and 9:30am on Saturday Nov 12th only. Do not bring art to Dressler’s at any other time. This is our set up day and art will not be accepted after 9:30am.

November 13 Opening Reception – 1pm – 3pm Complementary Champagne and signature hors d’oeuvres - Dressler’s Restaurant, Birkdale Village, Huntersville, NC. Suggested Donation $25 and will be split between Our Towns Habitat for Humanity and the Lake Norman Art League. Accepted artists will receive 2 complimentary tickets.

December 16 Work will be shipped out or may be picked up at Dressler’s between the hours of 10:00 A.M. and 2:00pm. Please make arrangements to have someone pick up or have items shipped if you cannot pick up work at that time.

Artwork requiring return shipment will be repacked in their original containers and shipped out via pre-paid shipment.
