I did the colored pencil drawing below, and I'm thinking about putting it up for trade. But I'm not sure on a couple of colored pencil points.

From my browsing around the colored pencil forum, I think it's ok to just let it go without fixative, but is that ok for art cards (if they are kept under plastic or glass, I'm worried that the pencil will stick to it)?

It's done on Canson sketch paper. Would this be acceptable? The stuff I've read says that anything goes for a support, but then lists more substantial stuff. If it needs something more substantial, would it be ok to spray mount it to a cut out from a cornflake packet, or some matt board.

I know it's a bad thing to do it on Canson sketch: I do have some stonehenge paper and some matt offcuts, but I just feel under pressure to produce something good with these, whereas with the sketch, I can just relax and let it flow.

It's a lovely little picture. I use cp too, but always spray with several coats of fixative before posting. I've used a good quality watercolour paper in the past, but now I prefer to use acid free mattboard because of it's rigidness. I definitely would not stick it to a cornflakes packet but it should be ok to moount it on some mattboard as long as you state this in your e-bay listing. If collectors know the facts, then there is less room for complaints.

Good luck
Gail

Thanks bullyluvver - I was just hoping to trade it among wc members in one of the projects. Not sure if that would make a difference - probably not: even if I'm not getting any money for it, I would be getting some work that someone otherwise could have sold.

I'll spray it, stick it, and post it.

If you're trading it, it probably doesn't matter.
If you're selling it you should either state that it has been sealed or, on auctions, offer it as an 'option'.
I prefer mine unsealed.

Thanks Jillian. I had a change of heart this weekend - I thought that if I'm going to do this, I owe it to the person on the other end of the swap to do it properly, on proper materials, so I've done a few potential Art Cards on Stonehenge and I'll use those.

Hmmm. Now I'm in a quandry over the spraying. I think I'll leave them unsprayed if I'm trading. If I ever sell any, I'll probably spray them and make that clear in the description.

Sorry, I didn't make myself clear in my response. My answer was 100% related to sealing.

Re the surface. I have used archival paper, which is NOT (in my mind) sturdy enough to class as a trading card. So for a recent screenprint I did, I used archival glue onto a card blank I bought from a rubber stamp shop. I clearly stated that. So, in my mind, while not the best surface, I did the best I could and was honest about it.

Jillian

Very nice! I agree with the comment about not mounting it on a corn flakes packet. Something this nice should be mounted on something equally nice!

If you *do* decide to spray them and sell them, you should scan or photograph after it's been sprayed since it'll darken the colours.

Personally, I like them sprayed, but that's just me. :D
