Been working on this iris, reference is my own. It's is a little bit in the ugly stage, having trouble with the gradual shading. I think I may do a greyscale and then continue on. Been doing some scrubbing and hoping not to ruin the paper too much. I have a ways to go yet.

Size is18x24 Arches block

Any comments and suggestions welcome.

Thank you Jutta, Strider and JJ. I did try earlier to have a diffused background with some lighter hues, but it turned into a mess, so voila, dark background resulted. It's looks black on the screen but is really a very dark green. I will post again, when I've done some more shadowy things and brighter colors.
Appreciate your comments, it always helps to inspire me to keep going, when the going gets tough.

I need some fresh eyes to look at this. Is this working yet? http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/23-Sep-2005/31649-justpeachy2.jpg

Hi Ruth! I'm more a landscape person, but I think your composition is so absolutely striking that I have to comment! The touches of violet show up more now, which is lovely. I would have a tendency to strengthen the heart of the flower a bit more, as the background is very dark and could overwhelm the delicacy of the flower. But that's just my opinion!

I think your are right, that's what I was looking for, how to strengthen the impact of the flower. Thank you so much for looking and commenting. I will continue on.

This is really looking wonderful. You've got the petal texture coming along beautifully.

The only place I see that might need a little more definition is where the horizontal petal on the left and the upright petal on the top meet. I don't see any distinction there between them.

I'm up front with Jutta and Kevin, waiting for the finish!

Hi Sylvia, I finished it and posted it in the Gallery (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=296949). You can see the finished painting there.
