hi all, thanks for the kind help with my picture of my sister last week, it didnt end well i'm afraid, but to make up for the disappointment i have produced this!
its 12x10 roughly on deep box canvas, and i used copper ceramic acrylic for the spatters and the reddish fur and the ear/eye bits. i am sooo pleased with this. i have plans to take it to a dog grooming parlour near by, where the owner said he'd be happy to have doggy pictures up and put pet portrait flyers on the counter, what an angel eh? speaking of which i have already covered another canvas the same size with pthalo blue for the matching opposite to this piece. I think because this one looks quite devilish, i might do a fluffy white angelic one next! The ref is excellent, i'll find out who put it in the Ref Lib.
thanks for looking, all c+c welcome

Wonderful! Nicely handled and very much artistic! Although the snout is a bit different, I think the treatment more than makes up for it. Besides, the painting won't be hung next to the ref pic!

Love, love, love it!! That red background is perfect for this regal Dane - and I love the copper spatters - will you post the companion piece here??

Nice job Leah. Danes are such regal dogs and the red seems apropriate for him.

Really like that copper touch! As a matter of fact, you might want to put a dab left of the eye and bottom of the mouth. Very well done!
Excellent Dane Portrair, Very well done.

well i thought i'd go far all the opposites for the companion picture, blue ground, silver "noise" on the ground, and instead of a great Dane...a chihuaua! i was going great and it was looking fab until i put the eyes and nose in, and i realised they were skewed, and then i tried to correct it, and the i tried ignoring it, and then i painted some bits out and......it crashed and burnt really. They say pride comes before a fall and its never truer than with that chihuaua! it was a monstrosity by the time i stopped daubing and i promptly painted over it in ultramarine. you could say its given me the blues.... :crying: :crying: :crying:
ah well we live and learn. i'll stick to short haired animals in profile from now on!!!

Beautiful Great Dane, Leah! Sorry to hear about your "crash & burn"! I can certainly understand your disappointment. I always seem to mess up my pictures more than fix them! :( I'm sure you'll do fine on your next try, though. I have faith in you!
Very good painting and background too, sorry for your chihuaua, don't worry you'll survived.

thanks guys! its nice to know there are people out there who do less than delightful paintings once in a while! now what would look good on this ultramarine background i wonder?? :)
