Had the urge to paint this using my black gesso as a background. It's moved along pretty quickly and I hope to complete it in the am.
I have no problem with all the space around the image and I have no problem with the image being central on the canvas, for some reason it just works for me on this one..........How about you?
Canvas is actually 8x20" but the photo cuts it off...sorry! It's also a nightime photo...my apologies once again...Insomniac problem!
Centre of the flower is renaissance gold (finity) for a touch of richness, may even make the stem gold too.

Anita: I like the black gesso background a lot and it doesn't bother me at all that it's
centered. Hope you post the finish!!!!!!!!!!!!

What potential already. Looking forward to a smashing finish as always.
WOW drama abounds here!! With a large single subject I see no problem letting it take center stage...this is going to be a beauty!!

I'm so pleased you all agree with me...Thankyou for your kind comments and encouragement. :)
I couldn't leave it last night, one of those paintings that just erupted and wouldn't let me go....Had to ignore it eventually and get some sleep so I could be semi-human for the kids this morning! LOL!
I've tapered the stem to add some visual interest to the bottom section of the canvas....Does it work? Also painted the stem gold rather than introducing green into the piece...Any thoughts?
Here is where I am at:

Wow.... it works for me. Hmmm, I've been downloading poppies too. Thought you didn't use black.

Great.... Great.... Great.....
I wish i had the patience to do so pretty flowers...
And yes it works very well, being centered and having a golden stem i mean. I even think, for this one, a green stem would be somewhat disturbing.

WOW! Anita, do you ever get any rest between pictures? Lol.... Lovely as usual.

Thanx Al. I've been wanting to paint a white poppy painting for some time now but can't seem to gather all the little images in my mind into one space and one idea....It'll come I guess. Can't wait to see your poppies, just know they will look fab!
I don't use black in my subjects...just my backgrounds. I bought the gesso a few weeks back for some drama in my ACEO paintings and this painting just screamed out at me for a black background.
Morgana...My thoughts exactly! I would have found the green disturbing too! ;) Thanx for your kind comments and feedback!
Thanx Gail...Rest?...What's that then??? I think I'm quietly worried that if I stop I'll just collapse. LOL!

The stem is straight, the photo isn't and the colours are so much richer IRL!

As I was booking our flights to Bergerac on Ryanair, thought I'd pop in to see your latest work. Love the added flower colour in the stem - harmonises the whole thing. Sure are cracking ahead for MTH.

Stunning Anita. The black background really makes this work. You have a wonderful way with flowers.

Thanx Joannie...Getting lots done, just got to work out how I will hang it all now! LOL!
Thankyou Carol! ;)
This Great Anita. Some times you have to break the so called rules. Centering the image sure works here. This is magnificent. The black backgriound sets it off and pops it right up on the canvas.

WONDERFUL! For a delicate flower, this is very dramatic!

Thankyou Chuck, I agree...sometimes rules are just meant to be broken, glad you feel this is one of those times too! ;)
Les...Fantastic comment...Just what I wanted to hear...Thankyou! :D
Jan, Gail and Cha....Thankyou!!! :)

Beautiful painting Anita! What colours did you use in your palette?
09-21-2005, 09:41 PM
I used the following Finity colours:
White gesso..To underpaint the lighter areas.
Liquitex Black Gesso for the background.
Think that's all of them! :)
