View Full Version : Best of Both!
Better late than never, I suppose ...
From 5 July to 1 August 2005, CB2 Internet Bistro in Cambridge was host to Best of Both, an exhibition of pastel paintings by WetCanvas pastellists E-J and Georgina!
Our work is very different. My paintings are mostly 'Things That Look Like What They Are' :) while Georgina's are abstracts, so the title of the show was designed to reflect the inclusion of both imaginative and representational art, with something for all tastes.
Alongside Georgie's huge pastels and prints, 9 of my own paintings were on display. A nice touch: all customers coming to eat and drink at the café were presented with a menu whose cover featured our artwork and details:
I'll continue in a new post so that this one doesn't become too image-heavy ...
So, here are a few pics of the images in situ ...
As you can see, it's a relaxed sort of environment. I picked a quiet time to take these photos, but during the restaurant's busiest hours it was very strange indeed to find tables full of strangers sitting down to a meal surrounded by my own artwork!
So, these are the paintings of mine that went up.
I wanted to exhibit a variety of subjects. These are all in soft pastel, apart from the open lilies on red (which is oil pastel) and the strawbs (soft pastel over OP). You will probably recognise them all!!

Congratulations on your exhibit. Those are quite good paintings and the place seems to be quite pleasant.
The menu is well conceived, in fact.
How was the public reaction to your works and the fact of them being in pastel ?
Did you chat alot with them ?

E-J, what a beautiful show! I love that strong yellow as a background for pictures. I have the same colour on my kitchen walls and anything you put against it looks great. Your work looks so good all shown together like that. I hope the customers appreciated it.

HEY HEY, Way to go girl, EJ, this is a terrific happening for you, CONGRATULATIONS!
Beautiful work, glad to see it again.
Thanks all. To be frank, this isn't somewhere you'd exhibit if you really hoped to sell your paintings, 'cos when people come in for a drink or a meal, I guess it's not with the idea of parting with money for art by someone they've never heard of. But just putting my pastels 'out there' was a big step for me. I won't feel half so daunted if and when I show my work again! :)

Congratulations on the show E-J. What a wonderful collection of your paintings and putting them out there always gives you exposure, which is important.
