Flowers, Branches and Vines, Oh My!

Please note this class has been rescheduled.

Instructor: Kim Osibin

Kim Osibin was one of the first contemporary beadmakers to create representational floral forms on glass beads. She developed many of the techniques currently in use and taught many of the beadmakers working in the genre. In this two-day workshop, Kim will share her secrets for making intricate floral beads.

Kim will teach you how to make the glass canes necessary to create flowers, vines and branches. The class will focus on different types of cased cane including; striped, ribbed and ribbon. Learn how to blend colors to create your own palette. Create dozens of different cane combinations for making tulips, sunflowers, gerber daises, grapevines, wisteria, hollyhocks, pansies, long stem roses, violets, stargazer lilies and more.

The emphasis of this class is on surface decoration. Kim will demonstrate at least eight different floral beads as well as give tips on how to make many others. Learn the techniques necessary for successful control of cane application in order to master delicate surface embellishment. Kim will bring her vast collection of flower books for reference and inspiration.

Students should be intermediate to advanced level, comfortable working on a propane/oxygen mix torch, and have good working control of their glass.

We are located in northern California, on highway 50. About 30 minutes east of downtown Sacramento, and 10 minutes west of Placerville. Shingle Springs, while different than Cameron Park, shares the same Zip code. We are located on the border to both. Therefore, you may sometimes find us listed on some map search engines in one town or the other.

There are lots of interesting sites to visit in the region. The discovery site that set off the California Gold Rush, in Coloma, is only 15 minutes away. The original western starting point of the Transcontinental Railway was in Sacramento. So was the Pony Express. You may want to visit The Train Museum in Old Sacramento. The Gold Bud mine is in Placerville. The real “Mother Load” is in the area. Beautiful Lake Tahoe, and its Las Vegas style gambling, is only about 75 miles away. Plus there are lots more sites to see.
