Hello watercolorists'
I didnt feel I had enough to do to get ready for the show this month so I have given my self yet another task :D
I have uploaded the three panels I will use for my WIP.
the panels are about 16x20 each and will of course correspond with one another. Please join me on a slow journey of success or outright failure. I can only work on this after work and on weekends. if the thread settles down to far I will PM a certain few who might help boost it to the top again for the sake of discussion. Thanks in advance for joining me, here is the first upload just three white panels of stretched canvas, next I will attatch masa paper to all three,

Kat, I can't wait to see this. But if the mod's see this wip then it will have to be sent over to the workshop or studio or where ever they go.

They've changed this forum to a gallery only of finished works. So, I imagine I'll see this in the other forums tomorrow.

Looking forward to seeing it develop. You're doing great. Keep them comin'!!!! :) :) :)

I'll follow it over to the other forum. :) :) :)

1-800 Malty and I even have his approval to call...
The white album Malt thats funny.
I agree it does resemble that. You know this dates all of us if we can relate to that particular Beatles LP.
Tom took my digita camera to school today... out of the 4 years I have had it he has never bothered with it. another murphys Law:
If i need it so does he. I will post the now masa covered panels tonight when he returns from his picture taking escapades. Cant blame him he is taking pics of the kindergarteners in the school where he is now principal.
They call him Mr Prinisablle heheh.
but i digress,
Chris thanks for you kudos even tho I forgot to comment on the challenge as of yet this week .. i will tho I promise!!!

Kat,
I'm looking forward to watching this go from white on white to masa magic!

Are you painting on watercolor canvas or regular oil canvas? What medium are you using? What sizes are the panels, etc., etc. for the curious amongst us. ;)

How did I miss you peeking in here Charm,
thanks for looking and I hope not to dissapoint you.
I knew once I bought the supplies that i better make it a WIP or it would never get done
thanks for your vote of confidence!!!

Sylvia the panels are set at lanscape possition and are about 20 by 16
it is stretched gessowed canvas and i wet crushed and glued masa paper over the the canvas... I just added a layer of paint so hoping my son will give up his camera for a few moments while i uplod three pics.
My colors are rose madder so far...and it is watercolor WN artist quality.

Becky I deferred to Chris and his opinion because I am supposedly his muse
was dubbed the muse monthes ago... so he knowing the initial qualifications of a muse I thot.....
duke it out you two I am just a poor artist looking for inspiration among the ranks. :D

KathyJB
09-10-2005, 12:33 AM
its hand made paper
and I tore it in strips
and affixed it with PVA
the pink and the green/gold papers are handmade

the rest is masa paper and lettering

Thanks for all the 'splanation Kat, it really helps to visualize what you are doing, very very interesting and worth trying (am off to get masa paper) yours is the second one I have seen using masa in 2 days so figure I need to try the stuff again as I had so much fun with it and that is what this journey is all about for me, experiment, fun, splash and sometimes come out with a "wow that turned out neat".

Thanks and you get my mentor point also

OK: I GIVE UP where do we give the mentor points? Found the stars (you got 5) but can't find the mentor, used to be at the bottom of the reply, anyone help?

OK I think I may be finished with the WIP
I had in mind to create a memorial to the New Orleans disaster caused byHurricaine Katrina but since I finished this on 911, I will dedicate it to both,
please note the mask I added as part of the WIP, I wish to represent a nation banding together to face the unknown and as they are alreading doing: helping one another to rebuild both emorionally spiritually and physically.
Hats off to you New Orleans, La., Mississippi and all of the gulf coast and the Southernmost part of Florida, God Bless all of you!!!

I added rose madder paint and some gold lame ribbon, a little yellow ochre artist grade WN paint, and several types of resists to create texture, and depth,
comments welcome and please enjoy the WIP,

I do have to keep from laughing though.

I cant wait to see what page that is on,
very funny Carol you are a card! Thank you,

Hopefulbucky thanks for seeing this project all the way through

LOL I hope that was a joke.

Wow!! I'm very impressed. I love the gold on the added pieces of paper. I love the colors you chose. And do you happen to know what the Oriental or Japanese symbols represent? The gold in the added paper reminds me too of Japanese decorative pieces, and seem to be figures, or animals...or at least depict such.

I would like to see more...more boldness. Maybe just because I like this so well. But thats just my thoughts on it.

Where'd Banxy go? He's not managing too well as a middle man, is he? He must have more responsibilites at Ye Ole' Baite Shoppe.....or some such thing. Don't ask me how I know. I heard it through the grapevine. ;)

KathyJB
09-12-2005, 12:49 AM
Becky I am happy you like this.. yes I am sure Carol meant it to be funny... you did didnt you Carol I did look back and that first panel looked a little like the uncomfortable shape a mammo could take if one were stuck in an acrylic squishing machination... heheheh perish the thought.

back to an artistic moment... there are three with
three characters in Kanji as noted:

panel 1 is theme for wisdom
panel 2 is theme for tranquility
and 3 is for harmony

as for banxy he may be ouit lounging in his sun canopy as I heard it was very fair over the pond today not like the 90 degree weather we had today,
:D

thanks for looking thanks for your smiles and comments and and most of all your inspiration and encouragement,

I have a very easy question and a BASIC ONE about affixing the masa at the beginning. Do I just take the masa paper, wet it really good, crumble it, then uncrumble it, flatten it and glue it on the watercolor paper with either the PVC or elmers mixed with water?? Do you lay it completely flat when you are gluing it on initially. Meaning do the crumbled lines still stay there?? How wet do you get the masa and how vigoursly do you crumble it up before flattening it and gluing it??

I am about to try this soon. Thanks. Lisa

KathyJB
09-16-2005, 11:32 PM
Hi Lisa,
I change my methods some each time I paint but this seems to work the best:
keep shiny smooth side up and crush paper into a lose ball
wet it some not too much
crunch it apply PVA to your support with only water from paintbrush I generally dont mix with water in a dish or anything if it is too thick can add a little water
you want the paper flat and adhered to surface
while it is still wet roll a brayer on it to smooth and flatten it, but be careful not to damage the surface. The cracks will btreak up asome of the sizing and cause texture in the paper when you apply paint,
thats it,
have a good time
